Could your child be branded a racist next? It beggars belief that thousands of primary school children are being reported by the authorities
A six-year-old child cowers tearfully in her school's office. She knows she is in serious trouble for uttering a 'bad' word. Her fear is compounded by confusion.

She has been accused of racism but is far too young to understand the gravity of the charge or grasp its dire implications.

It's ridiculous calling a little kid a racist. Obviously, they picked the word up from an adult-- probably a parent-- who is racist. It IS important for kids to learn to watch their language though. Maybe for a six year old... make them clean up part of the classroom so they remember to clean up their mouths.

chemical licker, THOUSANDS of kids aren't being accused of being racist. This kind of silly exaggeration drains the umph out of your post.

Yes but why are they making such a big deal about it? This should never be big enough to make the news. What are they going to do to kids next?! No wonder people are so ****ed up.

multiculturalism can work.. if people stopped being so easily offended. Ditch the over PCness.. because pretty soon political correctness, won't be.

I love being embracive with other cultures.. you can learn so much. But when it gets to the point that you're walking on eggshells because you're afraid that breathing in a certain way is offensive, then it's just idiotic. >.>

You know the best way to make a kid a bigot? To point out that such judgments and differences even exist, like these jackasses are. Those kids, for the most part I'm sure, are just name calling. They don't understand the gravity of it, and I doubt they even consider it. This is just ridiculous. This all just serves to confuse them, and put such notions in their heads.

Quote

Meanwhile a white pupil asked - to the palpable embarrassment of every adult present - whether white kids were allowed to be proud of their identities, too.

Quote

In another session, chaos disintegrated into farce when a young black boy was asked how he identified himself. The drama tutor misheard his mumbled response. 'Ah, a dark-skinned person!' she said. 'No, a dancing person,' he elucidated.

The only ones even considering race as an issue are the adults. Now who are the damned racists in this situation?

I wonder if they put this much effort into trying to keep kids from name-calling in general? I wonder if the same kid would have received the same punishment for calling a kid a "retard" instead, or if she had made fun of a handicapped child...

What about blonde jokes, like "quit acting so blonde" ? Is that racism? The first time a black man stayed over our house, my 2 yr. old daughter called him that "chocolate man" and tried to taste him, it was funny because she loves/loved chocolate so much, because living in Germany it was her first time seeing or noticing a person of color (we all have color!). She called him "chocolate Chuck". He still teases her about it this to this day. He laughed so hard, and thought it was adorable. she did have a terrible fear of men with beards though. Now that was odd. She got over that one.

I think again, it is the intent that means everything. Most people can tell, or either if there was no negative intent, now with kids maybe not so much. I'm "haole girl" over here, LOL. I think its a good experience for me and my children being the minority for a change. After a while though, we aren't even really aware of that anymore, it's strange. we forget we are in the minority. At first we were very aware and felt a little odd. It all depends how others treat you and vice-versa.

It is a beautiful trait in the lovers character, that they think no evil of the object loved.

Children are naturally curious and take notice of things (like skin color). Its part of their learning process and developement and is completely innocent.

Let me know when they find some kid hiding his (or hers) KKK hood under their pillow.

We have traded the segregation of the 1960's for the "multicultural centers" of today where people voluntarily segregate themselves by race.

This was most likely a word this child has picked up from Parents or other adults in her life. I don't think it's possible for a 6 year old to be a racist and I think the way the situation was handled was totally over the top. But I do recall slapping one of my white classmates in the face when we were in 3rd grade for calling me blacky so.... :innocent:

Why is being called "blacky" offensive but calling your classmate "white" not offensive in the same manner? Is it because of the "y" on the end?
