news.bbc.co.uk said:

A town in County Clare is at the forefront of tackling the age-old problem of public urination.

Last week, Ennis man John O'Connor installed a device which transmits an electric shock to those who relieve themselves outside his shop.

The device has sparked debate in the town, with one councillor suggesting the appointment of two "urine wardens".

Paul O'Shea said the wardens would patrol the streets at weekends looking out for revellers urinating in public.

"The wardens would then notify the gardai and on-the-spot fines would be issued," said Mr O'Shea, who chairs the Joint Policing Committee in Ennis.

However, the town's mayor, independent councillor Frankie Neylon, warned the job faced by urine wardens could be hazardous.

"If our traffic wardens are getting spat at during the day in carrying out their duty, I believe any urine warden would be in a lot of danger at 3am," he said.

Green Party councillor Brian Meaney suggested a "name-and-shame" website could be set up where local residents could upload photos of people urinating in public.

Must be a real problem over there. I have seen people pee in back allies and stuff but it's not really an issue here so much. A Urine warden LOL thats a nasty job title plus I bet they get schitt on all the time by the drunks at 3 am LOL
Man is where man is because of man...

Another reason that I'm glad I live out in the boonies. I wizz outside all of the time.

But seriously, you can't go shocking people like that. That might be a bit much.

Anger of WWI veteran's family after binge-drinking student is pictured urinating on war memorial

Quote

he image of a drunk student urinating on a war memorial has provoked a furious backlash from relatives who had laid wreaths of poppies in tribute to their loved ones.

John Ievers, the grandson of a World War I soldier who died in 1917, branded student Philip Laing, 19, a 'drunken idiot' for desecrating the memorial in Baker's Pool, Sheffield.

The 49-year-old software sales consultant said: 'I am annoyed - he's a drunken idiot.

'He should be made to clean the streets of Sheffield or do some kind of community service.'

People people.. It's not a serious problem. Shop keepers are only angry at the fact the people from the night clubs puke, piss and sometimes **** infront of their premises. It's not that it's serious, they are sick of the repitition of it (10 years or more). The urinating for some reason is the heart of this media frenzie. There are no toilets to use only one public toilet near the night club that you have to pay for and you can spend a long as you like in there. A piss on the grass is much easier. The fast food toilets are closed to the public after 11 and the night club security keep people out and try and move the crowd onto the street. They won't let them back in to use the toilet. I will admit though this problem is simply an Etiquette problem. Some people purposely piss on the doors and windows of shop fronts because they are too lazy to walk to a more suitable place. Also pissing on the premisies is half a "**** the system" idea.

Ironically there is supposedly an old ancient irish law where a person who requests the use of the facilities cannot be refused.

The Loo Lieutenant's are simply suppose to be dressed in ordinary clothes and rat out people who are pissing on the street to the Gardí. There is no confrontation. There is also aother old Irish law that a person cought pissing in the street can be fined two old Irish pounds.

Those cardiff pictures look a lot worse then Ennis (the town in question, Co. Clare ). Personally I think people take this binge drinking out of context. Like everything it seems a lot worse when you see it from afar but it's almost harmless when you are involved. Maybe it is worse then I think and I see things through rose tinted glasses. At least there is one respectable drunk in ennis. I pride myself on bieng drunk but not being anti social.
