its been discussed and is a skinned sloth. do a search and you can read up on this.

Actually look at the mouth and body how it goes down, it's actually in my opinion a big fresh water turtle. The shell has been off of it, hence why it died probably not totally due to the children beating it..esp if it came out of the water. If you look at its profile you'll see the nostrils and face of a turtle, along with the muscles and bones in its 'fins'. They just look very weird without a shell, poor animal.
