UniversalAbsurdity and I set up this thread over three years ago for all those wanting a bit more flare to their avatars, however it's been going for so long now that it has evolved into what it is today - with many new animators and of course styles avaliable.

The idea is you simply post in the thread with your image or your request, and one or more of us will attempt to animate it. Please note the animators are all unpaid volunteers who do this for a love of animation and to help other forum members to have the avatar they want.

Members who ask politely and are patient are much more likely to get their work done than members who are rude and demanding.

If you would like to view all the avatars without having to trawl through the thread, there is a link to each animators work after their name below.

If you feel like taking a trip down memory lane maybe you'd like to read this, where the animating began all those years ago....

Simple resize jobs are also available if you have already found a picture or animation you would like to use, simply post with your image and one of us will work our magic.

Current animators (and links to their work) are:

The Founders
UniversalAbsurdity: (1-109)
thebarman: (1-10) (11-20) (21-30) (31-40) (41-50) (51-60) (60-70) (71-78)

Animators
Tom R
Dan'O
Jeremy Rumbolt (1-5)
tiddlyjen (1-15)
sayntbrigid (1-10)(11-15)
Venledar (1-10) (11-20) (21-30) (31-37)
JohnnyBoyC (1-8) (9-16)
Bigfoot_Is_Real
MrFahrenheit (1-7)
wabbit (1-9)
Jesus_Freak
Triniant
_Hailo_
Scorpius
cerberus

If you've had an avatar done by one of the animators please could you add a credit to your signature - nothing big, just a little "Avatar animation by (animator)" just as a thankyou...

If you're having trouble getting your avatar to work this thread written by UniversalAbsurdity will guide you through the steps.

Animating your own

If you'd like to have a go at animating youself here's the link for MS Gif Animator which is a nice bit of freeware. Once you've done a few avatars that people have used, we'll be happy to add your name to the list of animators above thumbsup.gif

Remember if you are interested in animating to first read the Animating Etiquette.

Here are a few tutorials put together so other's can learn how to animate avatars;

2.Blinking tutorial
3.Lightning tutorial

Intermediate animating
4.Tweening with Ulead

I'm not overly proud of this one but I'll stick it here anyway, it was done for Mentalcase in his avatar competition but alas he (obviously) didn't pick it sad.gif

How is this?

The image comes off a bit larger, because the original was a jpeg, you should be able to right click on the image and go to properties for a url to use when updating it. If it dosent work, let me know and i'll do my best to resize it.

UA, actually that flicking is pretty cool.
Except the picture would have to go dark when the flame went out, since it's the only source of light.

Barman, i love the light flickering on the dude, i'd like to post that one as my avatar but i can't save it and use it because the system says i can't use that type of file.

Guys,
You know Falcos avatar? I think it would be AWESOME if the planet in the background moved as they bird flies, yanno? Up down.

Could you make Garfield blink? or something?
I´m an evil pinko UN slave liberal commie

I don't think any of these "The Vague Society of Nebulous Meanies are going to take over the world and light up a planet" theories worry too much about practical considerations like that. It's all about rousing ill-informed, paranoiac fear, not making sense.

Alrighty. UA/Barman, i've been taking some comments from people on the board, and they think the light flicking on the dudes body is to much. Any chance you can tone the flicking down a little to a smaller area just around the flame itself, or something like that?

Thanks guys!!

I'm on it, watch this space...

...I had to slow the frame rate down a little to stop the light looking as frantic but it's not hard to speed it up again if needed:
