www.telegraph.co.uk said:

Ministers are planning a massive sell-off of Britain's Government-owned forests as they seek to save billions of pounds to help cut the deficit, The Sunday Telegraph has learnt.

Caroline Spelman, the Environment Secretary, is expected to announce plans within days to dispose of about half of the 748,000 hectares of woodland overseen by the Forestry Commission by 2020.

The controversial decision will pave the way for a huge expansion in the number of Center Parcs-style holiday villages, golf courses, adventure sites and commercial logging operations throughout Britain as land is sold to private companies.

Oh look, the Coalition Government selling something else off to make a bit of money.

Is anyone beginning to wodner if the Coalition Government isn't actually a devious plot of the Labour Party to discredit the Tories and their little puppy and make us feel nostalgic for them?

Life is a hideous business, and from the background behind what we know of it peer daemoniacal hints of truth which make it sometimes a thousandfold more hideous.

While logging is important, in the long run it's going to be a serious problem.

Aside from that I hate golf courses, they're a waste of space.

Wow, that's stupid. I can understand selling off some land... but HALF of the woods? Sheesh.

It's ridiculous. I thought there was money to be made out of selling carbon credits and therefore protecting forests but it seems like they are more happy to get a short term pay off. What will be the long term costs though?

Sustainable forestry has a future and it is of far more value than more golf courses or centre parks.
