"She turned me into a NEWT! [pause] I got better."
"The opposite of love is not hate, it's indifference
The opposite of art is not ugliness, it's indifference
The opposite of faith is not heresy, it's indifference
And the opposite of life is not death, it's indifference"
- Eli Wiesel
This is, after all, a demon haunted world (reference to Dr.Sagan). I think the key to changing this kind of thinking is education. I'm fairly sure that this group of people have embraced this 'magical thinking' for a very, very long time. Old ways may die hard, but in this case great effort needs to be made.
I wouldn't put it pass the fact that the accused one with the magical anatomy was just a bit too popular with the ladies of the vicinity.
' ... life and death carry on as they always have ~ and always will, only the dreamer is gone ~ behind the flow of imagination, beyond any effort to be still
dancing in the ebb and flow of attention, more present than the breath, I find the origins of my illusions, only the dreamer is gone ~ the dream never ends '
GIFTS WITH NO GIVER - a love affair with truth ~ Poems by Nirmala
Sad to say but in MANY areas of the world where superstitious and ignorant describe a large portion of the citizens, murder for imagined magical crimes is rampant. Not to say that our own brands of educated, enlightened religions are a whole lot better. (or worse depending on your outlook)It has not been that long since the Christians killed people for being witches. And we see the world struggle everyday because some Muslims believe thier book commands them to kill. Is it any different really.
Qur'an 9:005: So when the sacred months have passed away, then slay the idolaters wherever you find them, and take them captives and besiege them and lie in wait for them in every ambush, then if they repent and keep up prayer and pay the poor-rate, leave their way free to them; surely Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.
Actually the Muslims have it right. Their book does teach/command them to kill
We've cast the world, we've set the stage, for what could be, the darkest age...
You guys keep going on about how harmless a snail is, but you have to remember that the snail used to be a man. That knowledge is a little creepy.
"Anything less than a human is a monster," said the first man.
"What about something that's more than a human?" said the second.
"An alien," the first replied. "Anything more than a human is an alien."
"Who decides if something is more or less than a human?" the second asked.
"Why, humans do, of course!"

And from the evil of darkness when it settles And from the evil of the blowers in knots
And from the evil of an envier when he envies"
