Ok, I'm not sure I see the logic in this. Yeah, I understand it's not nice to smoke in a car with non smoking occupants..
But really? A person driving around a machine that spits out exhaust, and doctors are worried if a bit of cigarette smoke trails out the window?
Yes, I am a cynical and jaded jacknape. I try to see all three sides of the coin- do you?

Not to mention how the government who make billions on the taxes from cigarettes  will loose ... that's if they banned it altogether...

It would be an invasion of privacy.. A persons car is their own property...  I understand the banning in public places..but in your own car.. that is going too far

I do not smoke in my house...I smoke at the entrance doors of my conservatory... smoke does not go into my home it goes outside...  I would smoke in my car when alone..  but I do not smoke any place else...

Ok i agree,if your on your own then its acceptable to smoke in a vehicle. As for the government losing billions then i disagree because smokers will always smoke however much tax is put on cigarettes.

I said if they ban it  altogether  as in completely ... The goverment does make billions on the taxes alone from cigarettes...

I never allow smoke in my home because I have a 6yr old girl... I will not smoke in my car when she is there... but when I am alone.. I will..

14 billion pounds annually is generated in tax on tobacco - the amount paid out in treating the patients with smoking related illnesses is five billion.. so a surplus. so with an aging population and on average people who smoke die younger - a shorter life expectancy of about ten years compared to a non smoker. they the smokers should not be lambasted.

Exactly.

I'm so tired of the "smoking dance" that goes on in our various countries.  If it's that damned bad for you, just ban it altogether and be done with it.

Ah, but as Steve point out, governments make significant amounts of money off of cigarette taxes (not to mention how many pension funds are invested in cigarette companies).  It's in the government's best interest to keep a certain percentage of the population smoking cigarettes.

It's the same with energy efficient automobiles.  If we all drove the most efficient vehicles, gas tax revenue would plummet.  We saw this in 2009 here in the US when gas prices went to all-time highs and folks started driving more energy efficient vehicles and/or greatly reduced the amount they drove.  Gas tax revenues fell dramatically and municipalities started screaming.

In Australia its illegal to smoke in a car with a minor. Totally banned in all clubs and pubs.

Here the anti-smoking campaigners want it pretty much banned all over, they raise the price for them and put bad images on the packets like mouth and lung cancer.

Im not a smoker but i think thats a bit overboard. If someone chooses to smoke its their choice, as long as it doesnt affect anyone else im fine with it. Raising the price and putting those images on the packets wont stop them.

Man who runs behind car gets exhausted.

Man who wants pretty nurse must be patient.
