This is a little story that has been told by my boss,

A few years ago our recovery drivers used to work from home at night, seeing as we didnt have mobile phones, the easiest way was to ring you at home, Mick(the boss) had a job passed to him about a lone female whos car had given up, and passed it to Gary at home.

Gary eventually arrives at the scene and finds the woman out side her car looking slightly worried, after a few pleasantries he has a poke around under the bonnet (was a mk2 cavalier, but dont think it holds any relevance) and finds the cambelt has failed and the car cannot be repaired at the roadside.

He askes the woman if she and her daughter would like to get in the truck and keep warm while he loads the vehicle and takes them home. The woman bursts into hysterics and is unconsolable, Gary thinks he has said something to offend her but after a minute or so the woman calms down enough to tell him she does not have a child. The little girl had appeared on the back seat when she looked in her mirror.

He slams the bonnet and both jump in the truck leaving the car where it stopped with the keys still in the ignition.

Gary could not work for the rest of the night.

There is a follow up to this as a few days later Mick, doubting Gary's account, spoke to the woman. She stated that she had bought the car cheap from an elderly lady who's husband died.
She learned that the old chap had took his grand daughter out and they returned home one late winter evening, he decided to leave her sleeping while he popped the car into the garage and let himself in the house so he could get her quickly into the house. Turns out he took longer than expected and the girl slept in the car while its engine was running in the garage.

She eventually suffocated and the grandfather died shortly after.

Let me know what you think.

Nice fictional ghost story to tell any passing travelers.

I heard plenty of stories that follow a similar nature.

Not sure how real it is and I dont have any reason to doubt the boss as he aint bright enough to come up with a story like that, although I believe it is genuine, many people have said its a spin off from the "ghost hitch hiker" tale.

You don't have to be "bright" in order to come up with a variation of a common ghost story.
