Lismore resident Marion Dawson says a photo of clouds that bear a remarkable resemblance to her late brother Gerry Wells gives her "goosebumps".

The photo was taken on January 9 at Ocean Shores, on NSW's far north cost, at the same time as Mr Wells was flying overhead from Brisbane to Sydney to visit family and friends, the Northern Star reports.

Mr Wells, 62, died from a heart attack only a few days later on January 24.

Mr Wells, who lived in Brisbane, never saw the photo, which was taken by a former editor of the Northern Star, Russell Eldridge, and published in the paper on January 11.

It was only after Mr Wells passed away that a friend of his son saw the photo on the internet.

The family used the cloud photo in a leaflet handed out to people at his funeral.

  • I probably think too much...

You know, I clicked on this thread expecting something similar to all of those "JESUS IS ON MY TOAST" cases that come up, but honestly...the edge of that cloud does legitimately look like a profile shot of him.

Probably a coincidence, but hey it's pretty cool.

I dunno. I always have a feeling there's more to it than just coincidence. Nice story.

Clouds look more like Santa.  Think I know 20 people myself who resemble the cloud formation.  If I look out my window right now, there is probably a profile I can pick out. Makes a nice funeral story, maybe makes the family feel better, but actually this is a complete non-story.

Interesting but merely a coincidence plus a huge helping of pareidolia
Either that or a photoshopped deal.

I think a more important fact in this story is the reaction that the people who knew him had on seeing the photo. I have no opinion on the resemblance, I just think its fascinating how people are able to find meaning in oddities like this. I'm not being cynical here. I hope the family was able to find some small peace from this but our primitive desire to find meaning sometimes confounds me.

Not meaning to split hairs, but the cloud has an upturned chin, this guy doesn't. But apart from that the cloud does look very much like him. Strange that the photo was taken while he was in the air flying home to see family one last time. Possibly coincidence but I do believe that some things can be orchestrated by God. That's my belief :)
