I know in books, Daenerys is married to Khal Drogo at the age of 13. Is she portrayed as being 13 and married to Khal Drogo in the series? I haven't sat down to watch it, but I am curious about that. I know that people who have read the books are already aware of her age, however, what about the new comers? What are your views on the relationship between Khal Drogo and Daenerys being portrayed on TV as it is?

Just curious!

In the tv-series, pretty much all the children characters older than Sansa are pushed forward five years or so.  Sansa was most likely kept her age because it would be totally unforgivable for a 15-16-17 year old girl to be as naive as she is.  When it comes to Daenerys there's also the matter that in the books she pretty much falls in love with him straight away (big, strong chap, not too hard for someone as young as she was supposed to be).  But in the tv-show the first few times they have sex, she's pretty much raped, crying all the while.  It wasn't until later that she fell in love with him.  Robb Stark isn't leading armies at 16 years old like the books, Theon Greyjoy is older than he should be also.

There's a scene in one of the episodes where Caitlyn Stark is talking to Cersei Lannister, and Cersei mentions something about an accident with their first child.  I'm pretty sure that's in there to explain the young age of Joffrey in the show and why she never had another heir (if they were married along with every other major house around the time of the Aerys Targaryean's death by Jaime), question marks would have been raised about the reproductive abilities of Cersei as queen).

That said, despite the minor differences here, as a fan of both the books and the television show I would highly recommend watching it.  And regarding Daenerys, as a hot-blooded male I have to say that they made a fantastic choice  :P

I think when reading a book it's easier to forget a character's age. I know most of the time I forgot that Daenerys is as young as she is. I mean what 14/15/16 year old does the things she eventually does after Drogo's death? But it's different when you have to see the character and can be visually reminded of their age.

That's fairly common in TV and movie adaptations though - some folks have issues with seeing 13-year-old girls having sex with grown men.  You can get away with that in a book, but no so much on television.

I just hope G R R Martin doesn't die before The Winds of Winter and A Dream of Spring.  A Dance of Dragons has a left a lot of cliffhangers in my mind. And as for Season 2 , I think this smiley says it all :sk

Between 1999 to 2003, I was pretty obsessed with GRRM. That five year and six year wait respectively sobered me and pretty lowered expectations too much.

I refuse to finish the series now but I do love the HBO series and cant wait til March 1st with the DVR set.

The long wait for the book 4. I became a fan somewhere between the publications of book 2 and book 3 just as ASOS hc hit the newstands. I had a circle of friends that I would discuss the series with everyday at work and bounced theories off of. I eventually realized my anticipations were overwrought and moved on and havent looked back. I have move on to different literary genres altogether too.

While I can't speak for anyone else, what turned me off was how everyone with any form of morals scruples was killed off. I know evil prevails are great deal, but in those books evil prevails 100% of the time. I simply lost interest.

Despite the high fantasy aspects of Martin's series, I think he did a fine job with the gritty realites of medievel life. Life was very hard.

And I liked the fact that Martin conveyed to readers that no one is safe from death not just killing off minor characters but major characters alike.

The sex and violence was manageable to an extent with one definite exception the sex life of Tyrion.

I am just glad I am over the series after being quite possessed by it over the course of a few years.

I just got over not having a clear-cut answer from Martin himself, first it was a preplanned trilogy then it was four books then it was five books then it was six books. Geez, how about finishing the fourth book and shutting up already. Didnt he finally settle on seven books or is it still six books?

I hear the quality of the series has dropped quite measureably too. Too many plotlines? Too many characters? Too many unnecessary POVs? Out the boat into Jordanland for Martin I've heard from some other former fans. Did he write himself into a corner? Or did he lose inspiration to properly finish the series? *shrugs* I aint going to be waiting 15 years from now to find out.

Anyways, I am going to follow the HBO series faithfully.

*sorry, rant over*

I never did read the books; but am loving the series. I do hate how the good guys get killed. But still love the show thus far.

Mr Martin sat down with the producers ofthe show and pretty much told them how it was meant to end so the tv show is ok in that respect. However I agree with the pople disliking the killing off the the pointless POVs. I just finished book 3 part 2 SOS blood and gold but I am afraid to move on considering all the bad publicity a feats for crows and a dance with dragons is getting. However I have been told to read AFC and ADWD in Tandom as one is set in the  south the other the north. I like the tv show but it has lost some appeal with the loss of Sean Bean. Its nice seeing new actors get their time to shine but a show like this needs one  mainstreamy/poularish actor to kind of anchor it in away. They need to think about their casting for season 3 a bit.
Mind tricks don't work on me, only money.
