www.dailymail.co.uk said:

Hundreds of brave dogs who have protected soldiers on the front line have been put down after serving in the army, it has been revealed.

The loyal animals are often seen as too fierce to be retrained as pets later, with 807 destroyed in the past decade.

The number has soared thanks to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, according to figures from the Ministry of Defence.

Hmmm..while it saddens me to see this I also feel that this is often the best thing for all.

These dogs have been trained to be vicious and anything could set them off such as a firecracker or a thunderstorm and they'll go into attack mode and they don't need anyones commands to rip someone to shreds.
I hate to say this but..animals are rather expendable. They cannot reason like we can and they cannot truly recover from metal disorders or trauma because they lack the level of awareness to be cognizant of what is going on in their minds.

Shock collars, drugs and repeated yanks on choke chains are NOT going to erase any of that. All it does is make the animal suppress its reactions until the stress builds up to critical then the animal goes nuclear.

Sadly the same goes with people of any age. Yelling, hitting, screaming, threats, drugs, confinement, berating comments, shame, humiliation...none of these are real solutions.

Do I really want to see a dog that has come back from the atrocities of war, playing with the kids on the playground? I don't care how cute it is, I cannot trust an animal that has been trained to viciously attack and kill to suddenly be this loving, happy little pooch. It doesn't happen with people and it won't happen with a dog.

Sad but the safety of people is more important.

It is a shame.  But I agree that it's too much to risk.

terrible ending, but lets not forget the RSPCA put down hundreds of perfectly healthy dogs not because they are vicious or dangerous but because they cant find them a home.

Dads mate lost his dog phoned everywhere police station council dog warden ect... phoned the RSPCA they had just received his dog an hour ago he arranged to go down and pick it up, gets there only to find out they had put the dog down because they didnt have room. this totally put me off the RSPCA. lets just hope the papers dont expose the RSPCA. the general public will be horrified.
