I think this is a horrible idea. Most of the time its the parents making the fuss over the kid's hair loss and that feeds into the child's feelings.

I think any child with no hair,just needs to walk outside,to see how different they are.
The little girl who inspired this,wanted to know why there weren't Barbie's ,for girls like her.
There's black Barbie,white Barbie,Asian Barbie,paraplegic Barbie....
She wanted a Barbie,that she identified with.

Oh yeah.She's old now.Comes with a wheelchair.

Ok,I cannot find the Original Barbie.I've seen it.
She came with all kinds of accessories.
Apparently they now make Becky,Barbies wheelchair bound friend.

Those girls who are in their teens and losing hair for any reason aren't going to want a hairless Barbie and those who are young enough are only going to freak out about not having any hair because their mothers do so. If we all gave our children only toys they could identify with, I doubt they'd have much fun. I remember back in January when the story broke of this big push to get a toy company to make this toy parents wanted. In the video that accompanied the story a little girl of 4 or 5 years old was at home playing with normal Barbie dolls and having a perfectly fine time with them. Little girls love to play with hair and this little girl was no exception. Give her a Barbie doll with no hair and she won't have hair to style or otherwise play with. The best way to handle a child's insecurities about hair loss - for whatever reason - is to A.) Allow them to socialise with other girls going through the same thing B.) Get a wig! That's what Locks of Love exists for. They aren't for adults at all.

Hmm. I have mixed feelings about this. I know the intention is very good. At one time I thought this would be a good idea, but then it made me wonder if it would make the girls ashamed? I don't know. It's all about how it will make girls who have hairloss due to cancer would feel about this. If it was me I would think, oh great another attempt to make me feel normal.
