That's the problem. It will have to be done by a skillful questioner. It's in his interests to deny being under the influence.

Skillful in what sense..if someone believes they are telling the truth, they will pass tests confirming they are telling the truth...

Not unless you make him take a lie detector test as well, to prove what he drank...ah, but they are not infalliable...back to square one I guess..

and what he ate, the time between drinks, the weather, psychological state of mind plus numerous other factors that could influence the 'severity' of alchohol.

How about talking to other guests at the party, witnesses. I bet no one's ever done that.

its like a 'skillful' observer seeing a UFO and describing it as an alien craft...oh hang on we are told this is an 'appeal to authority'..

I wish soemone would decide on the rules of the game and stick to them  :P

It could influence how drunk a person sounds or acts, but perhaps less so what they perceive.

Why not? You were cherry picking reasons to discount it.

Bruni interviewed more people then anyone else i'm aware of in this case, she put a great book together...I have no idea if she hit a wall in finding others at the party though.

Anyway, i've enjoyed these word games Flibbertigibbet :P ..but I have to get working for the moment..

Maybe she didn't try interviewing them, as they weren't witnesses to the "UFO".

Ok bye :)

Just like you did above, finding reasons to discount their testimony even before you have any idea what it might be, such as using the cover up. I wonder what you would say if they all said he was dead sober all night?

I said alcohol or drugs. I think alcohol is more likely.

Ok. Now you have reduced the possibility to alcohol rather than drugs.
Certain drugs can cause hallucinations. Not all drugs have this effect.
Alcohol seldom makes you hallucinate. The other thing to mention is that you can be under the influence of alcohol but when an incident occurs it is actually surprising how quickly you can sober up mentally.
So, let's assume, for arguments sake, that every single one of the witnesses was under the influence of alcohol to some degree or another (which is most unlikely given that some were on duty at the time) and they were not hallucinating, as it was not hallucinagenic drugs they were on, the description of the lights they saw could not possibly match those of reflected, or even direct light from a lighthouse, where does this leave your theory now?

edit,,,,typos
