Ok...this isn't anything paranormal, but I just wanted to ask people of suggestions of what this could be?

For the Australians here, I took this photo while bushwalking in the Carnarvon Gorge in Queensland a few years back.  It was slightly off track near one of the side gorges.  I found the pattern strange and it was as hard as rock. It looks man made to me, though this is odd considering the remoteness of the area.

Any suggestions?

It looks like snakes, giant worms or even tree roots, but I don't suppose it's either of those. If they were,  how they've become hard as rock is a mystery.

I agree with SW and I'm pretty sure "fossilisation" doesn't work that way ... does it?  That is a real mystery.

They do look like worm casts, maybe hardened from the weather.

Considering what else it looks like though (and what it technically is) I can't believe you touched it! :w00t:

It indeed looks like a fossil or hardened mud, which would be a newer fossil right. Interesting and great find. Thanks for the post.

Yes.  My suggestion is simply to go to the Carnarvon Gorge National Park site, and email the information to the people who look after, and should be familiar with, the area and its denizens.  If they don't know, I'm sure they could recommend a museum- or university-based expert.

At first I thought it was Intesties. But they would have been eaten by Fox's or Crows, even small insects. Not to mention our population of Flys.
It could be Tree sap, or some form of Gell from some type of Fungus found on or even in the ground. Hence it was never eaten. And then just crystalized. Plenty of Humidity and heat to help the process up there.
QLD has a great deal of veried Forest vegitaion I noticed in my time up that way. Particually their fungi.
About the only think that wont harm you with some form of Spikes (which are mostly hidden). As I found lol.

Down here in the south, we get a Gell like substance that wells up from wet sand on our beach's. Many people confuse it for Jellyfish.
Id send a Photo to the QLD Natinal Parks and Wildlife an ask. Still could be an interesting discovery and learning experience.
