Gidday CP
Don't go too hard on me, I live in Australia, it takes a while to type that far!!
It seems they already have a good start on the investigation, from the article:
Feith listened to the air traffic recordings and believes the object could be one of three things:
- A military or law enforcement drone.
- A remote controlled aircraft.
- A large bird.
All options are quite plausible, but I am not sure that a single one can be determined until the FAA get a little deeper involved.
Another link says:
The pilot is heard telling air traffic control: “A remote controlled aircraft, or what? Something just went by the other way … About 20 to 30 seconds ago. It was like a large remote-controlled aircraft.

And of course the Open Minds website is sensationalising the story, typical
The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating a mysterious UFO that nearly collided with an aircraft over Denver, Colorado on the evening of Monday, May 14.
According to KUSA 9News, the NBC affiliate in Denver, a pilot flying a Cessna Citation 525 CJ1 corporate jet approximately 8,000 feet above the Denver neighborhood of Cherry Creek radioed the control tower to report that something looking like “a large remote-controlled aircraft” flew past his plane in the opposite direction. 9News reports that, “as far as investigators know, the mystery object did not show up on radar.”
Investigators are extremely concerned about this UFO because it poses a severe risk to planes in the sky.
Greg Feith, avation analyst for 9News suggests the UFO could have been a military drone, a remote-controlled airplane, or a large bird. But those are just guesses. For now, the object remains unidentified.
LOL, how
cheesy are these guys!!
I suspect we will find out more as the FAA gets in a little deeper
Updated at 3:30 p.m. ET: The Federal Aviation Administration emailed USA TODAY with the following statement regarding the object: " The FAA is investigating the incident and will try to positively identify the object the Citation pilot reported, where it came from and who was operating it."

A matter of time perhaps for this answer.
Cheers.
