Dragon Authorized to Proceed Toward Station
Fri, 25 May 2012 07:27:06 AM GMT+0100

The International Space Station mission management team completed a thorough review of the progress of the SpaceX Dragon spacecraft and at 9:38 p.m. EDT unanimously authorized the International Space Station and Dragon flight control teams to proceed toward rendezvous and berthing about 11:20 a.m. Friday.

The SpaceX mission management team reported all spacecraft systems are ready for the final stages of rendezvous and completion of the final COTS demonstration objectives, and space station managers reported the orbiting outpost is ready for the commercial spacecraft's arrival.

Dragon has nearly completed its fly-around of the station, crossing behind the station and beginning its final approach. NASA TV coverage will begin at 2 a.m.

Dragon 1.4 Kilometers Below Station
Fri, 25 May 2012 08:57:58 AM GMT+0100

Dragon is approaching the International Space Station. The spacecraft completed its 3rd height adjustment burn at 3:04 a.m. EDT.

Two mid-course correction burns were made fine-tuning Dragon's approach and a co-elliptic burn was completed at 3:50 a.m.

Dragon is 1.4 kilometers below the station. SpaceX has confirmed Dragon's thermal imagers have spotted the orbital laboratory.

Dragon Approaching 250 Meter Point
Fri, 25 May 2012 10:23:56 AM GMT+0100

The Dragon spacecraft is inside 350 meters from the International Space Station and approaching the 250 meter point for demonstration maneuvers.

Dragon will demonstrate retreat and hold maneuvers before moving to within 220 meters of the station. After evaluation of the retreat and hold demonstrations Dragon will move inside the Keep Out Sphere which starts at 200 meters.

Dragon at 250 Meter Hold Point
Fri, 25 May 2012 10:34:29 AM GMT+0100

The SpaceX Dragon capsule has reached the 250-meter hold position, just outside the “keep-out” sphere of the International Space Station. Dragon should resume its approach towards the keep-out sphere and is expected to reach the sphere at 6:16 a.m. EDT. Mission control Houston and the SpaceX team are evaluating a variety of demonstration milestones, including navigational updates for the Dragon through its LIDAR system and its ability to approach and retreat from its position underneath the station to test its capability to abort at the rendezvous if required. Time for the grapple attempt remains approximately 8 a.m. NASA TV coverage is underway at www.nasa.gov/ntv.

Retreat Commands for Dragon
Fri, 25 May 2012 10:34:29 AM GMT+0100

The SpaceX Dragon capsule has resumed its approach toward the International Space Station from a distance of 250 meters. It will head up to 235 meters, at which point the crew will begin to issue a series of retreat commands, testing the capability to abort at the rendezvous if required. This process will continue until Dragon reaches the 30-meter mark.

Try ISSTracker to see where it is right now, or Heavens Above if you want to give your location so you can find out when next the ISS (and Dragon) may be visible from your location..

Dragon Given "Go" to Proceed Inside 30 Meters
Fri, 25 May 2012 02:29:29 PM GMT+0100

The SpaceX Dragon capsule has arrived at the planned 30-meter hold point beneath the International Space Station. A "go" has been given to proceed inside 30 meters at approx. 9:32 a.m. EDT. The new scheduled grapple time is 10:02 a.m. The approach from 70 meters was delayed while SpaceX resolved an issue with the primary navigation sensors due to spurious reflections from the external pallet attached to the Japanese Kibo module.

Dragon Being Postioned for Berthing
Fri, 25 May 2012 04:47:10 PM GMT+0100

Following its capture, the SpaceX Dragon capsule is being positioned at the end of the International Space Station's robotic arm for installation onto the Earth-facing port of the Harmony module. European Space Agency astronaut Andre Kuipers and NASA astronaut Don Pettit are at the robotic work station in the space station's cupola. NASA astronaut Joe Acaba is standing by to bolt the Dragon onto Harmony through commands he will issue from a laptop in the Destiny laboratory. Although the crew is running slightly ahead of schedule in the installation procedures, a specific time for berthing cannot be predicted. A mission status briefing is scheduled for 1 p.m. EDT to discuss the day's activities.
