(Reuters) - Security experts said on Monday a highly sophisticated computer virus is infecting computers in Iran and other Middle East countries and may have been deployed at least five years ago to engage in state-sponsored cyber espionage.
Evidence suggest that the virus, dubbed Flame, may have been built on behalf of the same nation or nations that commissioned the Stuxnet worm that attacked Iran's nuclear program in 2010, according to Kaspersky Lab, the Russian cyber security software maker that took credit for discovering the infections.

Hopefully this is a virus meant ot kill off the Iranian nuclear weapons projects. Maybe it has already worked as the Iranians are starting to work on a deal.

There is no 'Iranian nuclear weapons project'. At least according to all Western intelligence agencies.

This was not directed specifically at Iran. It was state created software designed to hit many Middle Eastern countries, including Israel, Syria, Saudi Arabia and others.

My guess is that it is from the American or British intelligence, and that it is the main reason they both know and have stated that Iran are not in the process of creating a nuclear weapon.

That may be true. But Iran is intentionally trying to force a standoff by saying and demonstrating that they are refining the uranium past the point that is strictly needed for civilian purposes. Also, they don't need a weapons program, as they already have the hardware developed years and years ago. This is generally public knowledge. It is the development of possible nuclear fissionable material that is alarming. Material that exceeds what power generation or medical research would require.

I see Iran -a country that hasent attacked anyone- is already fostering hatred from our good resident posters. I guess the propaganda machine is humming along as well as ever.

Once uranium has been processed to be used for medical isotopes, 97% of the work is completed to create fuel for a bomb.  That extra 3% takes about one month to complete.  With the facility at Qom being steadily upgraded with more centrifuges that time might even be reduced.  Apparently the US and other Western intel agencies are not very good when it suits you to say so (Iraq) and quite sufficient at other times (Iran nukes).  Frankly, I think most here wouldn't bet the farm on Iran not readying themselves to build nukes.  And since the entire bleeding WORLD with the exception of Iran's allies, are willing to sanction them to the point of starting a shooting war, your point seems a little hollow.
They have the delivery system.  A simple design for a "gun type" weapon doesn't even need testing ( the "Little Boy" design wasn't tested).  So their non existent weapons program has them in pretty good shape for a bomb with about 60-90 days notice.  With it they begin to build "alliances" based on fear with other countries in the region.
I have vacillated on the will they attack, won't they attack based on the actions of Israel and US government spokesmen(as if either could be trusted) but it occurs to me that Israel has been able to survive by being bold and attacking first when needed.  When the Iranian bomb appears they will have to be tuned to a hair trigger with their own nukes.  They cannot trust Iran enough for the types of communications the East and West relied on in the 60s and 70s.  Bottom line is I think Israel will feel it MUST avoid such a situation.  They'll take the initiative and to hell with the response from the world.

Oh they attack... they just do it from behind women's skirts.  They leave their soldiers in the barracks and use fools with trucks and boats laden with explosives to do their dirty work for them.  They call it asymmetrical, I just call it cowardice.  But a day is coming when the IRGC is going to be well and truly bloodied unlike anything since 1988.  If Israel does attack the Iranian military will be better off to let their mullahs cry foul to the UN than to try to strike back.  That way they save the IRGC to kill their own young people who want freedom.  Otherwise even Obama will have to go medieval on them and leave most of their bases and infrastructure a smoking ruin.  This virus apparently wasn't designed to destroy as stuxnet was..darned thing was a spy program of great elegance.  Very impressive.  And it seems your good friends the Israelis did it to you.

Iran is a signatory to the nuclear non-proliferation treaty. Do you think they should be held to that treaty? Should international investigators be allowed in to inspect?

Before you respond, know that the US does have international inspections all the time.

Or perhaps Israel??

Kaspersky Labs discovered ‘Flame’ following a request from the United Nations. The world body’s International Telecommunication Union suspected the existence of an unknown malware – codenamed ‘Wiper’ – whose task would be to delete sensitive information across the Middle East.

Iran is the top target, with the worm ‘crawling’ in at least 189 of its computers. The West Bank comes second with 89 infected computers.

Sudan comes third with 32 damaged computers. Then almost in a tie, stands Syria with the worm identified in 30 computers. Eighteen computers were targeted in Lebanon; ten in Saudi Arabia. Next but not last is Egypt, with five contaminated computers. All, except the latter, are considered enemy states of Israel.

In its blog, the security software maker Symantec said ‘Flame’ was also uncovered in computers in Hungary, Austria, Russia, Hong Kong and the United Arab Emirates.

Though no trace in the code ties the latest malware to any specific copyrighter, author or state, Iran indirectly blamed Israel for ‘Flame’.

According to a New York Times investigation published in January, ‘Stuxnet’, the cyber villain discovered in 2010 which attacked Iranian centrifuges, specifically in the Natanz uranium enrichment facility, was tested within the premises of the Dimona nuclear complex located in southern Israel.

According to Gostev, links could indicate that the ‘Flame’ wizards accessed technology used in ‘Stuxnet’. Indeed, the worm seems to have run in parallel to the ‘Stuxnet’ project as preliminary analyses show it’s been disseminated since February 2010.

Kaspersky Labs points at certain characteristics shared by ‘Flame’ and ‘Stuxnet’, but unlike ‘Stuxnet’ which damages computerised equipment, ‘Flame’ is meant to collect information.

It was a joint operation between the Israelis and United States to develop the Stuxnet Virus designed to damage the nuclear power plants instead of destroying them. Obama released this information to help boost his Poll Rating, but it will have a opposite effect than he desired. He just basically opened a can of worms that could lead to other nations blaming America for any or all cyber attacks against their country even though it could be Russia, China, or even North Korea who have been known to do this. Obama is a idiot and I guess he doesn't understand the term, "Loose lips sinks Ships."

From my understanding ( if the sources are accurate on the news "Fox News" ) I heard that Iran is trying to hurry some kind of clean up as if they are hiding something? A reporter stated that due to them trying to clean up quickly they must be close to the percentage they need for Uranium to be used for a Nuclear Warhead.

I think they are PROBABLY much farther along than is being admitted by anyone.  It will only be a mild surprise, but infuriating, when they suddenly admit to having a device.
