...no, not really.

I discovered that show Ancient Aliens and had a big time laughing at the guy with the hair.  It's entertainment after all, with a tiny bit of history thrown in there so they can list it on H2.  I do have a copy of "Chariots of the Gods" from when I was an early teen which was interesting to me then based on the idea that aliens had been or were around doing construction work here on Earth.  Their economy must have been bad if they had to travel off of their world to find work.  :)

It did rekindle my interest in ancient Egypt though.  I picked up a magazine the other day called "KMT" and even though it didn't have any aliens in it, was a very good read.  I am amazed at some of the posts here.  Especially first posts....which purport to explain all manner of things I didn't know were even questions!!

Anyhow, I am enjoying reading all of this.  If anyone has a suggestion for a good book (online or otherwise) dealing with ancient Egyptian history, I'd appreciate it.

Usually people tend to only discuss the pyramids.... maybe its that they just can't see the silica from the desert... who knows why.... LOL
Like I said above this PDF helps to see the context in which Egypt came from. Its beginnings. There many other books I'm sure others can recommend and they may be better reads. I just personally like this one.

I liked Chariots of the Gods and Gold of the Gods. Got me interested in science, mythology, religion, politics, engineering, geography, geology and many other forms of technology.

As unpopular with modern archeology as those kinds of book are, they could be considered to be like Flash Gordon was to kids in the early 20th century.  The spark was provided for later interest in non fanciful subjects.

while von daniken's stuff doesn't impress me these days i have to admit that his original book and movie really sparked my young mind back then a-wondering .. "what if, once upon a time .. once upon a time .. once upon a time"
i still think its all possible that we were visited sometime back in the ancient past but i haven't yet found or read of anyone finding any credible evidence for it .. maybe one day .. maybe one day .. maybe one day

Actually, after reading some of the most recent posts here in the forum, I am starting to form a theory:

That the length of the post and number of quotes from other members posts is inversely proportional to the amount of actual science in that post.  Also, the more personal attacks there are per post, the less likely people are to take it seriously.

Still humorous to read though.  But a post that is 6 screens high gets tedious.

They certainly can be tedious, especially if it is a huge wall of text with no breaks and little punctuation.

Does that mean the one smily posts are the most scientific and well thought out?

Sometimes it does get quite tedious around here but for the most part everyone means well. There are a few posts lately that are exactly how you describe. It should end soon and we should be able to get back to fact based discussions. All anyone wants is if your stating something as fact to try and support your reasoning. If its opinion that's another thing and quite excepted here. People just tend to make wild claims and support it with because they don't want you to know the truth.... that can't work in any way you look at it. Like I said though this cycle will end and discussion will continue soon... I hope. LOL
