http://www.dailymail...rder-house.html

Came across this article and I thought it was interesting. It's about the Villisca Murder house. Apparently it's the 100 year anniversary, and some residents are pretty unhappy that the current owners of the house flaunt the history of the place and give tours (for money of course) and the owner isn't sure why people are still so uptight about it after 100 years..

What do you think about places like this? Famous murder houses that give out tours or rent out to groups for overnight stays. Would you go to one? Would you be upset if your town had one? Would you think it's fine that your town has a tourist attraction like this?
Yes, I am a cynical and jaded jacknape. I try to see all three sides of the coin- do you?

I think its fine giving tours to people especially when the murder is this old.  Because of these tours maybe the victims won't be forgotten.  I don't know why the neighbors should be upset, maybe jealous they aren't the ones getting the money.  Our town does have one haunted hotel that they let people do ghost hunting in for a fee of course.  If you want to pay to do something like that its your business.  Personaly I don't know if I would because so many, not all, are scams.

If I could pass off my place as being haunted, and people were ignorant enough to spend money to walk through, hell yes I would do it......

I wouldn't mind as long as the tourists are respectful of the neighbours' property. History has shown they tend to have a callous disregard for it.
Illegal immigration isn't a new concept in the US. Just ask the Native Americans.

I think it would be ok to let tourists check the place out. If they are not causing any damage to the place, its really keeping the memory alive.

I think it also depends how respectfully it is done. At the end of the day people died horribly in the event, no matter how long ago it took place. Also, 100 years is not that long ago, relatively.

I think it's a good thing.  If they didn't make money from tours and sleepovers, etc, then they might have to close it down and possibly even demolished.  Then people would forget what happened there entirely.
Also it's not just about the victims of the murder.  There are many people that are desperate to believe and witness something that will give them hope for an afterlife.  They shouldn't be denied that opportunity.

I'm guessing the neighbors don't like all the traffic, people coming and going, and also the owners making all that dough. Heck $400 for 1 night? No breakfast in the morning? Makes the Myrtles with it's $220 per-night price tag and complimentary breakfast quite a steal! :w00t:  I know if owned that place, you can bet I would be renting it out as well!

Are there reports of paranormal activity still happening?

To think those ridiculous clowns from "Ghost Adventures" made even more of a mockery of child murders by posing for numerous photos with axes at the site is enough to make me wretch.

What's the difference between this and the Lizzie Borden B&B?

None.

People are fascinated with murder and murder houses.

You don't want to visit, don't.

You don't want to watch TV shows that go to these places, then don't.
