At some point if population growth continues the way it is I'm sure life as we know it will end.

So basically, as a species we're commiting incremental suicide with a side order of collateral damage. Well, since I don't see us changing our ways,it makes me wonder what the next species to develope higher intelligence will be? The earth will be fine,it will heal itself.Sorry, got a little off the main topic.

I think eventually the ability to procreate (for those who aren't wealthy) will fall by the wayside via pollution, disease, radiation, and other causes. Who can even afford kids these days?

I hate these threads.  I know that overpopulation is a SERIOUS issue.  Unfortunately, when people argue over it, all too often I see people putting their heads in the sand and practicing willful ignorance.

They don't want to believe that their cozy little reality could be greatly modified simply because of something as pleasant sounding as "growth".  Unchecked growth, when combined with finite resources and space, eventually equals catastrophe.  The moments you notice the catastrophe is the very last moments before it occurs, when nothing can be done.

Likely, we will fail to do anything about the problem because it "feels better" to pretend it's not there.  Shameful...

Censorship has always been used as a tool to subjugate minority ideas, regardless of validity.  Used to delegitimize certain points of view.  This kind of arbitary censorship will always be an injustice to humanity; it tries to brush ideas under the rug.  It forces the adoption of certain mainstream views, making it impossible to teach, learn, or speak about ideas that the censors disagree with.  This will always be unethical.

The thing is, I live in US and here you need to pass a test or apply for a license to drive, you need a license to hunt/fish(b/c of population concerns of the fauna) and you need insurances to own a home or do any kind of business that seperates you from someone's thumb so....apart from the fact that the devil is a salesman and needs bodies to buy these licenses, how in the world is it that the most fragile and important decision a person can make(to create life) not regulated.  Well of course b/c it's our inherent right to be free to reproduce, but is it not our inherent right to seek the spoils of the regulated subjects listed above.  To me setting a minimum requirement of means to show a person is competently able to provide their offspring a quality life should be obligatory, obviously life is chaotic, and there would be rebels as their should be in any system(beneficial bacteria), but say those that don't have a license to reproduce don't have access to cheaper housing and free milk and eggs and all that which is motivation to gut the system.

The problem is that there has been a large scale war in 65 years. War threw out time has been a population control.

This sounds like an nwo conspiracy to me. What im worried about is how  many civilians is the goverment gonna let die to save the elite. The future tends to scares me. Our generation could be the last. I may never have a kid or a wife or a real chance to live my life. Im only 20 & I have a feeling I wont make it to 40.

Once this planet becomes too populated at some point a disease that is drug resistant, like many are becoming now, will come through and wipe out billions then problem will be fixed.  Not to be morbid but just think how populated it would be now if the Black Death and other such events hadn't taken place.

If i had a dollar for every person who talked like mankind can use a "cleaning" every now and then ...

Just think how populated it would be if all those religions hadn't fought each other.
Just think how populated it would be if all those wars didn't take place.
Just think how populated it would be if all those diseases didn't exist.

Just think how overpopulation is just a popular term to describe the inability to equally distribute resources around the world.
Overpopulation is another imaginary frontier of human kind. Just like trains were new and ppl said they couldn't go faster than 30 miles an hour because of the fear your bones would get crushed.

A lot of ppl exist yes, and a lot more are coming. There's no limited space (no room horizontal? you go vertical), resources are still abundant (if one resource stops an alternative is created). The management of it all is very poor.
That's the big problem.

A big shift is coming because of man, the outcome is unknown. But implying self-destruction is fear-mongering. Nothing more.
Do you really thing that ppl, mainly scientists, will just sit back and let everything collapse? Such BS.
The will to live is a hard thing to get rid off.

I think the pending Economic disaster and poor infrastructure that's doomed to collapse in most western nations will do more to curb population than anything else.. Then you can pretty much bet on a good old fashion war to thin out the population.. The system needs to reset and eliminate a good chunk of the population more because mankind has become fat and lazy, than that our resources are drying up..
