BELVEDERE (CBS SF) – A Marin County couple spent more than $4 Million to land a prime piece of real estate, only to level the five bedroom estate and turn the lot into a garden.
The home at 333 Belvedere Ave. boasted views of the Golden Gate Bridge and San Francisco skyline, according real estate listings. But it also blocked the views from some nearby homes.

I note that the purchasers wanted to enhance their own $19 million home with a garden; I wonder if it will add $4 million in value to the property?

Curiosity is insubordination in its purest form.

I'm sure it had to increase the property value somewhat, but I don't see where it would be worth $4million more with at garden. But then again that is California.

I dunno if it would improve the price on their property or not.. Kind of depends on how adjacent the property is and if they decide and are able to get the two properties re-alloted to a single property. It's possible they have the house across the street and it won't be possible to allot the two properties as one. So they would then have a 19 mil home and a garden across the street worth whatever once a multi-million home isn't on the property anymore.

I know...I remember a news article and broadcast  about the Lotto winners in the UK once.. they were nicknamed the Lotto Louts.. they blew all their big winnings  on nothing but useless crap and squandered the lot within a year...only to wind up back on the dole, sponging off the tax payers again...

Hey Beckys_Mom.
You wouldn't happen to remember how much money it was they won, or close to what it was, would you? I'm just curious. And you know what they say: A fool and his money shall soon part. ;)

And as to the rich couple demolishing the five bedroom home for a garden, I hope they intend to plant some vegetables in that garden and feed the poor souls that are penniless and hungry. Maybe there's a chance they will suprise everybody and do that.

If it's the one I am thinking of it was £9 million he won. He bought a very large house in an upper class residential area and turned the garden into a banger racing circuit for himself and his friends  :(

Who cares what others do with their money?  They earned it and have the right to spend it however they wish, that doesn't mean there is something wrong with them it just means they aren't as willing to give away their money to strangers as others.

That's digraceful that is. How can you have any self respect to know you did that?! Could have bought a nice house, paid it off, bought a nice car each and invested some. (to give you an income) You could live happily after that going on holiday a lot, see the world etc. Then give some to charity, but actually give it to the people who need it, not the charities as they will take most of it. (Unless it's research charity, those are different)

That's not the point, the point is that it proves the majority of rich people are pretty damn vain. Which doesn't really provide the unfortunate amongst us with much hope.

Thanks Englishgent.

£9 million! Good God Almighty! He must have spent 99% of it on that house to lose it so quickly then.
