Yep. Things are falling out of the skies. As they have always done. There is no significant rise in these events that I am aware of.
As for all those dates that came up showing asteroids etc, , yes, we are detecting more objects who;s orbits are close to ours but this is only because of new technology allowing this and more people looking for them. They have always been there and there is always the chance that one day we will be hit by one. But not on 21/12/2012 :)

Oh man, that night I noticed the horizon was glowing a very bright yellow, I've never seen it like that before. I was more inland at the time and couldn't see the ocean. Would never have guessed it was because of a meteorite. That's pretty cool..
