"This study is in response to questions from residents living near wind farms about possible health effects of low-frequency noise generated by wind turbines," said Minister of Health Leona Aglukkaq in a release Tuesday.

The study will look at the relationship between complaints about noise and health effects with what has been "objectively measured" in people living near wind power installations, the release said.

If I were that energy company I would tear down all the turbines and build nuclear power plants instead.

It depends, if they build one in your backyard the low level constant noise could have some effects... now if there is a major interstate in the neighborhood the health risk will not be the windmill....

Yes, I love when I drive down the highway on my way to work in the morning and notice the $250,000 - $300,000 per home housing developments right off the side of a major highway. The houses are about 10 ft. away from each other and the backyards are about 100 yards away from the highway with no privacy. I never understood why someone would want to live like that?

I remember an issue of 2000ad (judge dredd) that had the citizens of one block tormenting the citizens of another block with low frequency sound projectors.  The idea was to totaly frazzle thier emotions and powers of reason over the long term.

They were going to put up a wind farm in WV not long ago, but discovered it was a health hazard (death trap) for some rare bats. I don't know who eventually won out, the endangered species law (the bats) or the wind energy investors who I think had already purchased the land?

Noise definitely has an effect...the noise increase of moving from an office with 10 people to an office with over 50 hasn't helped the stress in my department at work, and when there are people making excessive noise right outside our area I've noticed we all get quite a bit grumpier.

But, there are so many sources of constant noise near residential areas that it doesn't make sense to single out wind turbines.  Just the noise of my old external hard drive makes me a bit batty some days :D
