I know he's a Shinto god, of the moon. And he killed the food goddess out of disgust and his sister fell out with him. But I'm still curious about this god, can anyone tell me about him more?

  • It's good to be mildly skeptical to remain sane. But too much of it will make you a douche.

Shitoism has probably at least a few thousand deities. Why bother learning about them? Are you an animU fan?

Is your photo of a peace rose? Or a blue moon?
You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here. And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.

Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be, and whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul.

With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world..

Be cheerful.

Strive to be happy.

We once had a very early cultivar of this rose, among about 100 varieties. It was very beautiful but not very hardy. Like most  beautiful things it required high maintenance . It never really flourished like the non cultivars but produced some exquisite flowers. I have read that, since then, they have improved the cultivars based on this rose. Your's struck me as perhaps the most beautiful avatar i have ever seen on UM.

Shinto is one of the most obscure religions there is.It has no basis in any previous known religion, and kind of came out of nowhere in only Japan.
It's gods and folk lore is used in daily life in Japan, even today, but there are very few strictly Shinto practicing people .
Most are Buddhist ,or Christian in Japan.
Christianity is still rather frowned upon ,as well. At least they don't kill the Christians any more.
^_^
This blue rose is the recently bred Applause rose. It's the only truely blooming blue rose in the world.
It was bred in Japan .I want to have a few bushes of it,imported ,to plant in my garden.
Many Shinto stories depict nature,as is done in Greek mythology .
My Fave god is Susanoo no Mikoto, and the stories of the white hare of inaba .

wow... :3 honestly i didn't know blue roses actually existed... :) that made my day, even if thts a bit weird hahaha, oh Tsukuyomi is my favourite Shinto deity because i've always really loved the moon for some reason, makes me feel safe and cheerful, Susanoo is pretty interesting too I guess, the way he is portrayed as both good and bad. I've tried looking up shinto a lot, it was my religion a short while back, but i'm catholic now.... (going a bit off... haha) What I'm trying to say is I want to know more, because the internet doesn't really tell me as much as i think there is to it in all honesty, im just so fascinated with Japan and it's many cultures and interesting history, it's sort of an obsession really.

Hush Hush is a good book... but it's fiction and might not be at your library..., i worship tht book :3

He was brought into existence when Izanagi bathed his right eye during purification after returning from Yomi.  Izanagi gave him the task to "rule the realms of the night".

Izanagi fled his pursuers, threw down a black vine that then grew grapes (which his pursuers ate), threw a comb that became bamboo shoots (again devoured), then threw peaches at them (old belief that peaches warded off evil spirits), he then blocked the pass with a boulder. He was then able to escape then purify and exorcise himself. From this, several kami came into existence, including Tsuku-Yomi-No-Mikoto (bathing of right eye) and Ama-Terasu-Opo-Mi-Kami (bathing of left eye).
