A Mississippi couple was not allowed to get married, because some of the white members of the congregation were violently opposed .
The Baptist church in question had never had a wedding for a black couple ,in its history .
I think I smell a huge law suit.

And i hope they get enough in a settlement,to travel around the world on a year long honeymoon .

Since this happened in Mississippi, and they were not yet members of the church, I'm not surprised.

i of course think its wrong to not allowed black people to get married in a church but it wasnt the priests fault it was the congregation, the priest still wanted to marry them. i think that people should be members of a church before being able to be married in it.  saying your going to join the church after marrige is something a priest hears alot and once the priest allows them to get married he nevers hears from them again. when having your kids baptised as well your normally a member before doing it, so its not you doing it just because you think its traditional instead of the theological reason. i went to a good christian school that you had to get a recomendation to join from a priest to join, non christian would go to chuch for like two weeks get the recomendation and just never come back.

There was no priest, only a pastor.

Who cares!  There are plenty of other churches that will marry two people.  If one church is prejudiced, fine.  Let them be and move on.   No need to avenge this couple.  If this church does not change its ways, it will surely die.

What do you mean who cares? If no one cared this would be happening every day and black people would be forced to marry in their barns. Everyone should care and do something to help prevent this kind of situations.

It doesn't surprise me in the least. I bet they are glad they didn't join the church.  What a bunch of hateful hypocrites.  I think the paster should have stood up to them. That kind of thing is against the law and they can sue.

Wait... this wedding was/is supposed to happen last weekend or next year? Is this a report of a couple that went in since before July 20 this year and was short changed, or is it they have gone in since then and just found out their pastor/congregation is not ok?
I'm not trying to comment in any way, shape or form about the content, just that the dates involved make me wonder as to when this was/is reported from.

Ok, so here's a resource with more information about this... http://newsfeedresea...ist-pastor.html It's a large collection from various articles.

And ugh, yes the wedding was this year, it just wasn't reported on till after the fact. The couple had already gotten everything set up and in the end a few parishioners had a snit and the pastor went with it, apparently for fear of losing his job. I'm usually a three sides to the coin kind of person, but hoo-boy it sure does look like what's reported is really what's going on.
I'll lose my temper now- shame on those parishioners who objected, shame shame. Shame on that pastor for not standing up and being a good shepard to his flock. I hope the newlyweds choose to attend a different church where meatsuit does not make a difference. Even if it does turn out that the reports are skewed and meatsuit wasn't the issue.. Still absolutely rotten to pull the church rug out from under the couple at the last moment, and I still hope the newlyweds choose a different church to attend.

well not  to rain on your parade, but they wont win a red cent.
a private organization has right to refuse service, or admittance to anyone they wish. if you have to be a member it is private.
they didn't kick them out, but denied service. their lawyers will tear this couples suite , if it ever filed" to shreds.

but you can bi-- ch and moan all you want, but did you really expect to get married in all white (or were there black members) church in Mississippi???? get real, i wouldn't plan my wedding in all black church, in east new york. you got to be dumb cookie to think it's members would be happy to see you there.
