A 73-year-old man is fighting to keep his late wife in a grave yards from his front porch after city officials ordered him to dig up her remains.

On her wishes in 2009, James Davis buried his wife, Patsy Ruth, outside the log home he built in downtown Stevenson, Alabama - even though the city rejected his request for a cemetery permit.

Officials are now trying to have her remains moved as they fear allowing a grave on a residential lot on a city's main street would set a bad precedent.

They say state law gives the city some control over where people bury their loved ones and have cited concerns about long-term care, appearance, property values and neighbours' complaints.

"Man fights to keep wife buried in their yard"

This could open a can of worms.  :)

I heard his first words after hearing the news about the disinterment was, "Are you guys insane?  It took me 20yrs to dig that hole and a further 20yrs to kill the witch".

Oh boy, if he gets his way, every guy is going to want this... some of them with their 'not-so-late' wives. :D

Get your facts first, then you can distort them as you please.

Yep.  We should have the right!

Anyways, I'm pretty sure there are plenty backyards worldwide with the remains of "husbands" scattered or buried.  And I've been in the home of many a sweet old lady who appears to collect urns.

What happens when this guy dies and the house goes up for sale? Who wants to buy a house with some woman buried in the front yard?

It's Alabama, leave him alone.  Plus his house is being passed down to his grand children.

Sad,unfortunately ,that's the law.
You're really not even supposed to bury animals in your yard.
