At first glance it may seem this bat has got himself in a bit of a lather - but in fact the tiny wet mammal is just covered in harmless morning dew while hibernating in a cavern.

The snoozing bat was snapped while sleeping in a cave in Argonne, in Verdun, France.

Photographer Yves Adams, 34, from Belgium, took this fascinating picture of the Natterer's bat getting some shut eye.

Bats are our friends, they eat mosquitoes. I like to watch them flying round the street light outside my house.

Bats are great, they eat bugs including mosquitoes and they are having problems just like the honeybee.  Hate to live in a world without them.

Bats are amazing creatures. They're a bit like pterosaurs, but you know... the mammal variant. Only one species of mammal developed flight and diversified into that niche, even when it was already occupied by birds. Evolutionary miracles man.

Indeed! Bats are fascinating for many reasons.
Austin, Texas is said to have the largest bat colony in the world. Millions of bats fly out from under the Congress Avenue bridge at twilight every night during the summer.
There's video's on YouTube.

I haven't been there, but that sounds like good advise which I highly doubt would have occurred to me!

A few years ago we were renovating the local community hall and it was my job to climb up a ladder about 30 feet and open up the gable end. As soon as I got the cover off about 50 bats came swarming out past my head. To their credit though, not one of them touched me.

They are amazing, just not enough of them.

Bats are wonderful and those photos are excellent; I love to see bats swooping around when the nights draw in.

Just this afternoon a friend pulls into my driveway, for a visit.

I see him and go into the porch As he's walking up he says, "Do you know that you've got a bat on your steps?" I look and there he is with his eyes closed.

We leave him alone for a bit and suddenly the sun comes out (it was a cold and cloudy day) and he scurries himself to the edge of the steps. Before we could check him again he lit off, literally 'like a bat outta hell'.

I looked him up and I think that he was a "Little Brown Myotis" (Myotis lucifugus).

Bats are related to primates.

Now imagine a gorilla with leathery wings, lol.
