very long time ago turkey sent a ship into Lebanon with many goods on it to compete with Beirut merchants, with very low prices
and they succeeded, the merchants of Beirut couldn't sell a lot of the Fruits that started to rot, And so the merchants of syria aleppo bout every thing they have and saved Beirut merchants, and they gone to aleppo and the turkey ship gone back to turky

the turkey ship name was "Rosana", and so the Lebanese wrote the Rozana song as a thank you and then it became very popular

the song goes like this:

by the rosana, by the rosana, all the happiness came with it
but what did the rosana actually do, may god punish it

oh you who is going back to aleppo, my heart have gone with you
oh you who is carring the grapes, we hide apples under it for you

every body have his beloved with him, but mine have gone
oh god let an air breath bring my beloveds to me

oh you who is going back to hamah, please keep me on your mind
Two thirds of my mind have gone the way your girl have gone

i swear to you by every thing Precious, and the source of your drinking water
our water is from Orontes River, the drink of the Mandarins

i liked the song .. lena  has nice voice
although i don't like those merchant you talking about who been ripping us apart for long time
monoplying things and selling to us high price milking poor people so they can satisfy their endless hunger
which can only be satisfied with dust and sand

they're not the heros you paint them out to be :D
nice song from lena though

"why should we not rely on Allah when he guided us our path . we shall certainly bear with patience all the hurt you may cause us. for those who want to put their trust in someone should put their trust in Allah.

yeah this is not to Praise the merchant, we know that they can't be good by nature :) , but it's a ponder upon one chivalrous action that might come from some one whom his noble feeling overcome his selfish greed for once,

since you mine all this hatred toward them, i will change the actual story,  the Turkish ship drove on the land, and it followed every single one of them and run over them
people then lived happily with the ship :)

not really here to argue .. just pointing out my dislike for what the song stand for
a ship went to sale in low prices or shall i say " fair prices " giving the insane prices
the blood sucking merchants gave in lebanon
and then our syrian blood suckers help their blood sucking lebanon merchant
to suck the hard earned work of honest working folks is quite disturbing
instead of lowering their insane prices to a fair reasonable one
sorry am just being straight forward here
i hate to let unjustice goes unoticed .. so it's worth to let on the real  tragic story behind the song
a very sad example of how world is being controlled by these people
which is the prevail of those greedy merchant over honest folks
.. thanks for sharing it though

edit : lol i hope it did run over them though :D

i see from that point of view, you are right, but you are applying this in the current world, the song is talking about a long time ago where the people and circumstances are different , and so the merchant might be only a poor farmers, who want to sell their stuff

farmers sell their goods on street in basta with really nice price :D
but merchants who buy all goods storing it all keep it away for a while then sell it at insanely price that's why it went rotten
i think 1000 merchant goes broke vicitms of their greed while miliions poor get food for low price is justice
that's how i view  things  .. alas it was not meant to be
