Some people may actually see sounds, say researchers who found this odd ability is possible when the parts of the brain devoted to vision are small.

These findings points to a clever strategy the brain might use when vision is unreliable, investigators added.

How cool, the human mind, what a wonder...

I hope they are born with this instead of acquiring it later, that would be so distracting.

What could possibly go wrong?

This garden universe vibrates complete.
Some we get a sound so sweet.
Vibrations reach on up to become light,
And then thru gamma, out of sight.
Between the eyes and ears there lay,
The sounds of colour and the light of a sigh.
And to hear the sun, what a thing to believe.
But it's all around if we could but perceive.
To know ultra-violet, infra-red and X-rays,
Beauty to find in so many ways.
Two notes of the chord, that's our fluoroscope.
But to reach the chord is our lifes hope.
And to name the chord is important to some.
So they give a word, and the word is OM.

Graeme Edge, The Moody Blues, from In Search of the Lost Chord

I only saw one disk with the two beeps, but I know if I'm startled by a loud noise, everything turns red.

I see bright flashes with noises too, usually the type of noise you aren't expecting though.
