New information about a US Navy Antarctica expedition in 1946/47?

Originally scheduled for a six month period, the “scientific” expedition was officially called “The United States Navy Antarctic Development Program,” and given the operational name Highjump.

The Naval expedition was headed by famed polar explore Admiral Richard Byrd. Byrd’s expedition ended after only 8 weeks with “many fatalities” according to initial news reports based on interviews with crew members who spoke to the press while passing through Chilean ports. Rather than deny the heavy casualty reports, Admiral Byrd revealed in a press interview that Task Force 68 had encountered a new enemy that “could fly from pole to pole at incredible speeds.”

Germany didn't have the transport ships they would have required to move the men and equipment to Antarctica to start a base.

Operation highjump basically split the task force into three groups for the exploration of Antarctica with the supply ships on one side of Antarctica while the other ships were in two other locations. I understand the importance of keeping supply ships at a safe distance but the other side of a continent is not feasible if you are in a military action.

The article is misleading, which tells me it's false. There was no "heavy loses" Only three men died, and they died in a plane crash when they were caught in a blizzard. There was no big battle with heavy loses. This story is just that, a story. No doubt people will take it as gospel though.

Also, it says that the USS Maddox burst into flames and sunk. That's not true at all. In fact, the USS Maddox even went on to serve in the Vietnam war, and was never part of any arctic task force.

Fake story.

There was a recent show on H2, History Channel 2 about Ivan Sanderson's Vile Vortices. One of the vortexes is in Antarctica.

The show mentions OperationHighJump.

The official explanation of HighJump doesn't really make sense or add up when you think about it. The more you look into it the more it sounds like parts are like the Swedish ghost rockets (which the military sent groups to investigate and/or (retrieve?)), or Roswell. Perhaps something happened which involved the military's InterPlanetaryUnit?

HighJump happened between the Swedish ghost rockets of 1946 and Roswell in July 1947, (and the massive postwar National Security Act Sept 1947 which totally reorganized (renamed) ;) the US War Department and created a dozen or more NSC departments).

Here's an excellent old Rense article talking about the USS Pine and Uss Murdoch and others.

http://www.rense.com/general35/op.htm

The Rense article's timeline in inconsistent with Wikipedia. HighJump began in Jan 1947, but the follow up happened after Roswell and the NS Act.

Byrd mentioned in an interview around 1947 that he was concerned by hostile fast flying planes coming from the poles. It was a curious statement if he wasn't talking about the Soviets, as supposedly some Soviet ships participated in HighJump.
