Meteor impacts may have once heated up the water on Mars sufficiently for life to have developed.

Wired said:

Water warm enough to support life once flowed on Mars, according to a paper published by a team of planetary scientists who probed Martian meteorites to make the discovery.

How long was the water warm for? If life was a freak event on earth,  it probably happened after thousands if not millions of years of water being at the right temperature.

Yeah, I somewhat doubt that an extraterrestrial collision(or 2 or 17) could have "warmed" Mars enough to have warm water for any sustainable time to promote the growth of life.
