That is pretty scary.  How many women haven't worked in a bar these days?

I've never worked in a bar...been to them though. I highly suspect that most forms of cancer have elevated risk with any type of exposure to toxins, workplaces included.

The article was very informative, and an eye opener, I never would have thought of the work place being a factor in the cause of breast cancer.

Brings into question, how costly is this going to be for employers ?  Being sued for causing a woman to develop breast cancer  OR even being sued by family members, who have lost someone due to breast cancer

Also, on the other hand, the fear that some women might have in bringing this issue up to their employer, concerned about loosing their job if they do..What I mean by that is - Take the example in the article about the auto industry, the employers may see it as too costly to continue their operations here, and move everything overseas.

Very true!  This could really impact a lot of families and their income.  I grew up in a fruit growing community.  The number of women diagnosed with breast cancer had ti be investigated and it was determined that the sprays were to blame.  The whole valley had to change the way they farmed and the province had to change legislature on which sprays were legal in the province.

Yes that is a perfect example..  And this asks the question - Why was this not brought to public attention a long time ago?

Money.  It all comes down to money.  The employers being liable and the drug companies making big bucks treating it.

Every possible thing regarded a carcinogen is linked with all kinds of cancer, then inactivity like for anyone to sit in their desks for 8-9 straight hours per day is thought to produce a huge cancer risk. Telling women to avoid work or the workplace to avoid breast cancer is ridiculous, an attempt to discourage women from working out the home by reminding them of breast cancer, the top killer among women. What needs improvement at workplace environments is reduce and eliminate the amount of toxins responsible for causing breast cancer and that's a great prevention measure by companies wanting healthier employees who are women by reducing the risk factors of breast cancer.

When I was a paramedic ,and I'm going back to 90s here ,all crews carried the EMS radio .Some like to also carry a radio that got the police band .PD got some calls before we did.  Shootings,bad accidents .So we could start to roll ,before the dispatcher on our side,even called us.
So it was one orctwo ems radios,and one PD radio .
In the front cab of an ambulance ,that's a lot radio waves ,in a small small space .

In the early 90s ,they gave us a,different radio from what PD and the fdny carried .
Apparently the antenna emitted something closer to microwave .

Dozens of women in our service ,has miscarriages, over the space of a year
A link between that,and the new radios,was made . We all had to wonder,what else it was doing to us , and maybe fertility in general .
Maybe a year after they went into effect with us ,there was an unusual amount of brain tumors in members.
Some people attach a mike to their radio ,and clip the talk piece to their shoulder . Almost all the brain tumors were people who used a shoulder mike ,and it would be on the side they kept the mike .
This was both men and women .

All of this was being leaked to us via friends in health service ,but never once did they tell us this was going on .
I knew people affected,personally .Ruined ones career ,as she became addicted to pain killers after her brain surgery .
So,assume employers are aware of the dangers in some cases,but just don't mention it .

Yeah . We all started holding the radios like at least 15 inches away from our faces ,but we carried them in holsters on our belts .
A few of the guys at my station in the Bronx ,came down with colon cancer ,and we had three brain tumors ,in one station . Thats quite a lot .
I always wonder just how much damage my cells have endured from that job .
Fires,911,the radios . A lot .
Of all my old partners on the ambulance....about 6 are dead . That's,a lot. Only one died in an accident ,one was suicide . We have a high. suicide rate .
The other four died of cancer . And that's just my partner's ,not including just people from the stations that I knew .

I agree!  Very scary.

And Tsa-la-gie, this isn't supposed to be keeping women from working, but to be able to make informed desicions of where they work.  Stydies like this may also put a fire under some business owners as they want to keep workers, things have to change.
