Was there a 2012 Prediction thread? I'm sure there must have been. There is a 2013 predictions thread: http://www.unexplain...howtopic=240263

Life is a hideous business, and from the background behind what we know of it peer daemoniacal hints of truth which make it sometimes a thousandfold more hideous.

I think that would really over-encourage the wacko's.

She obviously was responding to Lion of Judah in a sarcastic manner.

My prediction is that things are going to get a whole lot better for quite a few people in this world.

That's a nice sentiment but the title really needs to describe what the section is about.

How about "New Age & Evolving Beliefs". Those are the kinds of topics that get posted in this section, as I see it.

2012: Another year when more doomsday soothsayers were born.

If you think about it, the possibility of -someone- turning out to be right has improved, yes? ;)

"From time to time there appear on the face of the earth men of rare and consummate excellence, who dazzle us by their virtue, and whose outstanding qualities shed a stupendous light. Like those extraordinary stars of whose origins we are ignorant, and of whose fate, once they have vanished, we know even less, such men have neither forebears nor descendants: they are the whole of their race."  -- Jean de la Bruyere 1645-1696.

Well, 2012 came and went, and once again the assorted religionists and nutcase doomsday believers have egg on their face.

Next try?

I like Modern Mysteries and the New Age best. Do we really need to replace 2012? Can't we just hack it off and forget about it?

'A phantom,' said my Uncle Mycroft, who had just materialised, 'is essentially a heteromorphic wave pattern that gains solidity when the apparition converts thermal energy from the surroundings to visible light. It's a fascinating process and I'm amazed no one has thought of harnessing it - a holographic TV that could operate from the heat given off by an average-size guinea pig.' ~ First Among Sequels, Jasper Fforde

ok, here is the post 2012 scenarios that I have heard about :

November 13, 2026: the Doomsday Equation, a prediction by physicist Heinz von Foerster that human population growth would become infinite on this date and everyone "will be squeezed to death."

2029 and 2036: Apophis, a large Near Earth Object. Much was made of it in popular media a few years ago but, more refined calculations that downgraded its level to 0 (0 = not a threat at all).

September 8, 2040: Alignment, a five planet conjunction event. Past alignments have produced the usual pseudo-science predictions of massive floods, earthquakes, volcanoes etc

Do I believe in any of them? Nope, 1200 doomsday predictions of the the last 2000 years later, we're still here.

that's an interesting one. Does he mean that everyone will all be squeezed to death simulatneously on that date?

At the risk of getting frowned at, this section always seems to be doom & gloom.

Perhaps Modern mysteries & Apocolypse?
