While most people celebrated New Year's Eve with parties and fireworks one pensioner in northern France spent the night alone in a locked supermarket.

The 73-year-old woman felt faint at the store in Roubaix and went to the toilet. But when she came out later she found the shop deserted and locked up.

I take it staff don't know how to check toilets before leaving then? I suppose it's an easy mistake to make though... the supermarket I once worked at, the cleaners found a dead junkie in the gents one morning who'd sneaked in and OD'd the previous night. Needless to say we locked the toilets quite early after that...

All the News coming out of France and New Years sounds like they really partied it up. Damn.

She had free reign of the store, even tried unsuccessfully to sleep in the staff office, but didn't think to pick-up the phone and call police?

Who knows, I suppose, if a phone was even available.
And at 73 and having fainting spells, maybe she couldn't do it anyway. Like someone said, poor woman.

Hope she's OK.
