notoverrated Posted January 3, 2013 #1 Share Posted January 3, 2013 Remove UFC toys from stores http://fiveknuckles.com/mma-news/Culinary-Union-petitions-Toy-R-Us-CEO-to-remove-UFC-toys-from-stores.html this is ridiculous, To: Toys "R" Us CEO Gerald Storch UFC Fighting Championship I just signed the following petition addressed to: Toys "R" Us CEO Gerald Storch. ---------------- Remove UFC Action Dolls from Toys "R" Us Stores Part of a parent's job is to attempt to teach our children to value and respect the dignity of every human being. It is also necessary to struggle to keep children safe. We do not need toys that glorify famous athletes or entertainers who choose to promote hatred, intolerance and violence with their words. Everyday women must struggle against violence, as well. Allowing or glorifying this behavior of bullying, uncontrolled anger, and using hate speech against other human beings IS NOT ACCEPTABLE. There are many examples of this unacceptable behavior. One of the UFC fighters depicted by an "action figure" being sold at Toys "R" Us taunted his opponent by threatening to act like accused child molester, Jerry Sandusky. Making jokes about child molesters or molestation is not acceptable. Another UFC fighter screamed a homophobic slur at his opponent, made lewd gestures and shouted obscenities at the crowd -- the very people who pay his large salary by purchasing tickets -- in a bullying manner. This is not acceptable. By selling UFC Action Figures, and by purchasing them, a message is sent to children and people with anger issues that this behavior IS acceptable. IT IS NOT. I believe in freedom of speech. I believe that parents are responsible for the choices they and their children make. However, by selling these cage fighting toys, Toys "R" Us, and by UFC, allowing their fighters to say these mean, hateful, violent, intolerant things at their fights, they are sending a message to children that it is acceptable to behave this way. I ask that UFC and Toys "R" Us be responsible for NOT promoting this behavior. i disagree with everything they just said above.
Sir Wearer of Hats Posted January 3, 2013 #2 Share Posted January 3, 2013 yes, what we need are more toys that glorify warfare (G.I Joe), animal torture (Pokemon), rampant hatred of people who are different (X-Men).....

Ashotep Posted January 3, 2013 #4 Share Posted January 3, 2013 Culinary Union, isn't this like a bunch of cooks/chefs. What I really find disgusting is when parents laugh when their two year old punches someone instead of trying to teach them it was wrong.
Likely Guy Posted January 3, 2013 #5 Share Posted January 3, 2013 Quote from your article: "There are many examples of this unacceptable behavior. Making jokes about child molesters or molestation is not acceptable. Ultima Weapon Posted January 3, 2013 #6 Share Posted January 3, 2013 Honestly, I agree with the letter. The only part I differ in is attempting to take them off shelves. If you believe it's best for your child not to have such toys, so be it. You have that right to screen them as a parent. However taking away freedoms of the public simply because something doesn't match up with your own personal value system is an extremely flawed way to address an issue. Essentially, she contradicted herself by stating this very quote from her letter: "I believe that parents are responsible for the choices they and their children make." Sakari Posted January 3, 2013 #9 Share Posted January 3, 2013 (edited) Barbie offends me......And so do Giraffe's. Ed it to add seriousness : If they think those should be removed for being offensive, maybe they should head over to the video games aisle..... Hasina Posted January 3, 2013 #10 Share Posted January 3, 2013 They usually stock those UFC figures in the 'collectables' section of my Toys R Us. Usually that means they're overly expensive action figures for adult collectors, it's just a way to make them more accessible to collectors. It's how I got my Alien action figure, and that movie ain't for kids.
rashore Posted January 3, 2013 #11 Share Posted January 3, 2013 Well that's kind of an imaginative way for a union to harass employers that don't hire into the union.

Order66 Posted January 3, 2013 #15 Share Posted January 3, 2013 (edited) The Culinary Union has long contended with UFC owners Frank and Lorenzo Ferttita over their unwillingness to allow unions in their Las Vegas, Nevada casinos or the UFC. In other words they have a personal vendetta against the UFC owners so they turn the kids against them to extort business. Very classy, what a kind-hearted group of people. Maybe the UFC can hire the displaced Hostess workers into death match. The winner can have the world's last twinkie. +OverSword Posted January 4, 2013 #17 Share Posted January 4, 2013 (edited) There was recently a UFC light wieght title bout on FOX. After retaining his title Benson Henderson ignored the question of the in ring interviewer and addressed the crowd in key arena telling everyone "All of this is what it is but whats important is the people in your life so when you leave here tonite go home and hug the people you love" Does that sound like the actions of a bad role model? The guy that started this petition is and idiot. edit to add the following: Henderson was born in Colorado Springs, Colorado to a Korean American mother and an African American father.[2] He was raised in Federal Way, Washington. When Henderson was approximately 16 years old, his mother, Song, insisted that he take Tae Kwon Do lessons with his brother. "She's Korean, I'm half-Korean, and it's the traditional Korean martial art, so she wanted us to do that to get a little bit of the culture and tradition," he says. Both Ben and his brother attained black belts in Tae Kwon Do. He attended Decatur High School from 1998 to 2001. Ben became a part of the high school's wrestling team. After graduating from high school, he attended Dana College in Blair, Nebraska and graduated in 2006 with a double major in criminal justice and sociology. While attending Dana College, Henderson was on the wrestling team, and was twice named an NAIA All-American. Henderson is a proud Christian, and uses his fighting to share his beliefs. He is known to quote scripture after bouts, and walks into each fight to a gospel song. "I don't drink—I've never had a sip of alcohol. I've never had a puff of a cigarette or weed or anything like that. Growing up in Tacoma, that wasn't a very popular choice. I made a decision, and whenever it came up, I passed the dutchie to the left hand side ... People have seen that. They see I don't do the club scene. By people seeing that, that affects them in a bigger way than me talking about it." [3] Edited January 4, 2013 by OverSword
