On 11 January 1935 Amelia Earhart successfully flew solo from Honolulu, Hawaii to Oakland, California.

The 2,400 mile (3,862 km) flight took 18 hours and earned her a $10,000 prize as the first to ever do so. $10,000 in 1935 is the equivalent of about $160,000 today...

Wish she hadn't of disappeared.  That's the chance you take when trying something daring.  Do wish they could of found wreckage or something.
