In 1897 the Swedish explorer SA Andree and two companions set off by balloon for the North Pole, an expedition doomed to failure. It wasn't until 1930 that the remains of the party were found, along with their diaries. Alec Wilkinson describes the fateful journey.

Thanks for that excellent link. I'd heard of this story as well as the outcome, but not in such detail. Will have to find the book! Thanks again. :)
