I have tried to figure out what it was that we saw here, and my only guess is some
kind of elaborate signal flare. Maybe you can solve this?

It was seen some years ago very late at night looking south out over the ocean just off
of central South Carolina. Three of us saw it. It was a spiral design in the night sky and
appeared to hover for some minutes and must have gone way up into the sky.
It was not bright, but like a dull wavy light. A few minutes and it was gone, and
none of us had ever seen anything like it before. Could not tell how close we were to it.

Any guess is appricated!

Norway Spiral?

Similar. I did not notice a cloud but maybe did not notice it.
There was a small cone shaped light near the middle portion.
High up in the sky and did not appear to be far off.
Otherwise very similar.

Thank you.

OK, I looked up Norway Spiral Clouds online, and I do see some phots of them with a cone shaped light.

We saw this object about 1970 looking south from central S.C. and
of course the rockets were shot off south of there in Florida.

I think this may be the same thing or something very close.

I am very surprised!

Maybe some manner of weather anomaly?

Armchair Educated suggested this was like the present Norway Spiral mysteries.

I now think it is the same kind of thing.

It is thought to have been produced by a failed rocket test,
perhaps from a missle firing from a sub.

My sighting was many years ago, about 1970, and three of us were
mystified by it. Seen above the ocean looking south from S. Carolina.
