Confused Stranger
Dazed
I’m hazily glaring at the twilight
As if it offers new truths I’m too tired to believe
As if, lost within the steadily growing shadow
I’ll find some emotional release
Release from these troubles
Release from this bubble of moral certainties
And self-destructive needs hiding beneath
Bloodied band-aids
Hastily applied to hide un-healing wounds
From unsympathetic blood-friends
I’m afflicted
Nonexistent friends offer me conflicting advice
Too kind to refuse
I let them abuse and misuse my battered compass
I let them corrupt and infest my fragile innocence
Until only a dim shadow can be seen of what once was
The mirror man’s a Stranger
And because of half-forgotten warnings
I avoid him.
