It was awesome.  Make sure you see it as it is worth it.  Not to give anything away but the blood flows, scores are settles, alliances reinforced and HS deaths.

I'll probably buy the DVDs when they hit the stores. I can't wait to watch them! I love how the series mixes fact and fiction. It makes it more realistic in some ways.

I expected to hate Steve Buscemi in the lead role. He won me over after the first five or so minutes. The real Nucky looked more like John Goodman. I always thought that they should have casted him in some role.

There is one reality with billions of versions.

Concur Buscemi nailed it.  I don't want to hijack this thread so I'll start a BE thread in this topic area.  Won't be much till it i back on but you'll love S-3

Believing when there is no compelling evidence is a mistake.  The idea is to withhold belief until there is compelling evidence and if the universe does not comply with our predispositions, okay, then we have the wrenching obligation to accommodate to the way the universe really is.  - Carl Sagan

Kathryn Winnick aka the shieldmaiden Lagertha and wife of Ragnar. IR, she is a third degree black belt in Tae Kwan Do and second degree black belt in Karate. I have been watching interviews of Winnick on youtube and I think my heart beats alittle faster and harder every time.

I just watched it. The Northumbrian army fought like a bunch of old women. The Vikings fought like superheroes. Where are Alfred the Great and Brian Boru when you need them? ;)

I feel sorry for my friends across the pond. They're always portrayed as wimpy villains in historical dramas.

The Vikings taught people, who were little more than mobsters, how to fight as an army.  Some of the most interesting history to read.  Regardless, this series is AWESOME.  The scene of the three long boats coming up the river is the best image of that western nightmare that I have ever seen.

Te uncoordinated cavalry charge was perfect.  The  were mobsters protecting territory, like mobsters,  and the vikings were having a different fight.

My thoughts exactly. You are going to take horse soldiers against a fortified position and charge??? Great way to die. :gun:

Thugs.  That is pretty much what 7th century Britannia was full of.   They weren't the perfectly tuned army under Wellington or the greatest Navy in history under Nelson, they were mobsters and thugs and the Vikings were better fighters.  I think that Britain would never have been as great as it was if not for the pressure of the Norseman.

I'm descended from gallowglass. They were mercenaries, some of whom were hybrids of Gaels and Vikings (for people who don't know). The Normans had Viking roots too. There must have been something in the genes.

There were exceptions to the rule. The English likely would have beaten both the Normans *and* the Danish if they had fought them separately. All three groups descended from Germanic tribes with warrior traditions, so they weren't much different at the start. The first wave of Germanic invaders were anything but wimps.

Concur, I should have been clearer.  The Vikings fought better as a team and a striking force.  They sailed up the countless rivers and tributaries and hit quick and hard and left.  The early Brits had a damn near impossible task of defending a huge swath of shoreline while simultaneously defending against the thugs across the valley who would take advantage of the temporary weakness.  Eventually they joined forces for mutual protection from the outside threat.
