I was going to post this in Other World News, as it is current affairs, but it's not news so posting here.
Question as per title: would you visit North Korea, i.e. for a holiday?
I recently received an email from a well known coupon company advertising a discounted 6 night all inclusive escorted tour of North Korea. I also read some pages on this website, where they outline their views on the morality of visiting such a place.*
Personally I don't think I'd like to spend any money essentially supporting the regime there, but I'd like to find out others' opinions on this. I have to admit I was quite suprised to find an email in my inbox suggesting I go to North Korea!
*too long; didn't read: Westerners visiting will show the ordinary people that Westerners aren't the 'evil characters' they have been portrayed to be by propaganda. My problem with this is how many truly 'ordinary' people are they going to be allowed to come across on a rigid, closely escorted tour?

The well respected former basketball player Dennis Rodman was on tv the other day telling everyone how great a person lil kim is/was .So what should we believe 50-60 years of attrocities or a pop culture icon?Sounds easy enough for me,give me those damn tickets

I'd go there... if it was a decent-priced trip and if I had a habit of going to a holiday to the outside world, and if there was some assurance that they wouldn't keep me there for whatever reasons. The vacation would probably suck, but if you think of being able to visit the place like that, sure. It'd be a shame if it was only a "tourist" tour though, not seeing the actual local life (which I know should be like seeing a concentration camp). I wouldn't want to see it because of being able to pity them more nor for any sadistic pleasures (dont swing that way much, more in the M than S side here) but it'd be good source of insight to what creates and maintains such a status quo. Why millions of people abide to it.

Looking up the travel company offering these trips, they also offer trips to Chernobyl. Wouldn't wanna go there either, myself.

sure theres a market for it im sure theres a fair number of curious people out there who want to visit to see what its like, unfortunately they will only be seeing state monitered areas and lots of smoke and mirrors.
i've read from a few people who have visited that along with being constantly monitered everything seemed entirely staged while they were there like its a few hours of show before youre rushed back to your hotel.
