Christian groups have won a victory in their campaign for shops to sell a religious Easter egg.

Nearly every major supermarket will for the first time this year stock the Real Easter Egg – the only one to mention Jesus on its packaging.

So where, exactly does the symbol of the Anglo-Saxon pagan goddess Eostre appear in the Bible stories? (OK, I will admit that she's so obscure that she may not have actually been a goddess), but it's common knowledge that the the whole Easter thing has pagan origins - the egg being the symbol of rebirth etc. the hare (Easter bunny) - fertility, all tied in with the 'King sacrifice' representation of seasonal rebirth.

Sales pitch really, isn't it?
