This has to be quite high up there for the weirdest things put in Ebay. Interesting that there's very little actually said.

Yep! There is a bit of a question mark over why somebody would pay 99p for it.

I read 0 bids, and the auction has ended by the seller.

I went to Hawick (pronounced "Hoick") for a family holiday in about 2001.  It's a nice little place, in Scotland but just a few miles or so from the border with England.  Many of the denizens of that town speak a strange form of English which retains more elements of Old English (Anglo-Saxon) than Modern English does.

This guy, though, must be a bit hard-up if he is desperate to sell something for 99p.

99p is just the starting bid, it's what most sellers on eBay do. It's a selling tactic.

Well, he still won't get much for it though.

Not now he's closed his auction and I doubt anyone would have wanted it anyway.

In general though sellers can do quite well from a 99p starting bid, depending on what the item is of course.

If he'd found a letter written by a royal or a politician or a celebrity, and preferably one that was over 50 years' old, he may have made a few quid.
