I got hit with the google redirect virus. For all those who do not know what it is, when you click a link at certain times you will be directed to a certain site. I also can not highlight anything in my google search bar. I am using Firefox. And windows 7. I do not want to pay the 70.00 for online tech support to fix it, because it is done manually. Is their anyone that could kindly help me, if they know how to remove it, tell me here? That would be great. Also, I heard virus scanners can not get rid of it, as I have already tried numerous ones. I has to be manually pulled from its roots.

There are ways to do this, but sorry, I would have to be at your computer(I'm a certified tech)

Online might help, but seriously, that's not the way to go, as you actually need to be off-line to properly manually remove this.

IF you know the maleware name, you can go to a different, clean computer and download the solution.

I could go into much more detail(such as obtaining and using a "Live-CD") but that would take too long to step you through it.

and disable Java on FF if not the latest Java

plus kill flash player if you can live without the online vids ... I hate online ad vids

Download Malwarebytes from another computers then booot the infected computer up into safe mode with networking(hit F8 multiple times after the computer starts and before teh Operating System loads).  WHen it is up and runnig in safe mode with networking install and update Malwarebytes and the run a full scan.  Then go to Kaspersky and download their Virus Remover  and run that.  After the bug is cleaned out restart your antivirus aand run a scan and reset Firefox to default.


Remove Java and install latest version if needed and do teh sam,e to Adobe Flash if you need it.  Those two programs are majoor vectors for malware but if you must run them keep them up to date.  Download PSI Secunia and scan your compute to see what else is out of date.  Rerxcommend you run a quality antimalware program like Kaspersky Internet Security 2013.

What Merc said. You might also want to try Combofix as well. Microsoft Security Essentials would be my pick as well, free and one of the best out there.

ok merc ill try. The online tech support guy said it had to be manually removed and couldnt be removed by spyware programs... lol probably just said that to get my money! Is it also possible that its screwing with my youtube? like the music is glitchy at times.. and i ALSO cant highlight anything in the google search bar or sometimes even delete something i typed in search bar.. Is it allll part of that redirect virus?

Some infections require that you remove the drive and clean on a shop machine but you should be able to clean your redirect with the method I outlined above.

You need to  get that computer off line because right now your anti-virus is is probably disabled.  The more you go on-line the more malware you will collect until you are beyond help and a reinstall is necessary.  Redirects are lightweights but are a pain to clean so get to it before you get a rootkit or something else really bad.

I did what you said in the first message. Although, I dont have another computer so I downloaded Malwarebytes on my laptop (infected one) and virus removal tool, kaspersky.. and ran them both in safe mode.. Malewarebytes found two adware virus's but none of them were the redirect virus as i still have it. and the virus removal tool didnt find anything. I may have to reformat my whole computer and loose everything, or pay the 70.00 for online tech support?

Try combo fix as well. Ive found that is better for those types of viruses

if you find that your going to have to pay anyway take it to best buy, tell them what you think it has, and ask for a free test, and an estimate. the tech support isn't bad for people like me who are esentually computer illiterate ( and can't spell either) they might have another idea. some community colleges also have repair shops  to give hands on experience to the students maybe you could find someone  there who would do it.
On this computer spy bot keeps finding something called widgi toolbar with a bunch of adware on it but spybot refuses to fix it because it says i am not the admin.  not only am i the admin but i am the only account on the blasted thing.

Combofix is awesome as well.  Make sure you reset or reinstall your browsers and look thorugh your programs in the remove a program menu and get ridd of the garbage and browser toolbars that are no there. Do that reagistry repair and cleaner

Uninstall internet explorer and reinstall it.

Whatever version you're using you can download it for free off the Microsoft Website. Its best not too -
1. Download anything off porn sites.
2. Dont install Active X components unless from a trusted website.
3. If pop-up windows appear dont click on their buttons but cntrl+alt+delete ito close the things.
4. Keep your internet security settings on medium at least.
