An eight-year-old schoolboy has married a 61-year-old woman because the ghost of his dead ancestor told him to.

Sanele Masilela tied the knot with Helen Shabangu, who is already married and a mother-of-five.

The boy, from Tshwane, South Africa, said he had been told by his dead ancestors to wed and his family, fearing divine retribution, forked out for a wedding.

They paid £500 for the bride and a further £1,000 for the big day, which was organised in just two months.

Kinda depressing that an 8yr-old has more luck with the fairer sex than me.  *sigh*

p.s. If I tried the 'dead ancestors said I must wed' my family would fork out for a straightjacket and have me sectioned.  (After they stopped laughing)

Wait, what?  His ancestors tell him in a dream he must wed so his family gets him a 61 year old bride?  That's the best they could come up with to uphold his dream? Really?

Actually, upon reflection, belay that.  Given it is "just the ritual" and they have gone back to their normal lives rather than living together it is probably the least of all evils, given she is clearly old enough and wise enough not to make something of the ritual it was not intended to be - aka: it was to "appease the ancestors" and not legally binding with no expectations beyond the ceremony expected of the bride and groom.

After reading through the thread I expected some tribal wedding and was surprised to see it is a typical Western white wedding.

Why didn't she just adopt the kid in order to appease the ancestors? :unsure2:

Don't be sorry...it was really funny. I actually wondered if you'd done it on purpose, 'tongue in cheek' so to speak.

I like older women too, but this is ridiculous.
