Stokes County officials are investigating after a man tattooed his dog and generated some controversy by publicizing it on social media.

Ernesto Rodriguez tattooed his 5-month-old purebred American bully named Duchess on her underbelly Wednesday in his basement parlor at 1396 Milsap Road near Pinnacle. The tattoo is an emblem that represents her bloodline, Rodriguez said.

It's selfish.

It didn't feel like torture to me.
But, it is rather stupid to tattoo an animal.. although people dock their ears and tails all the time. That's not torture at all. :-*

I wouldn't do this and really don't care for it but if your dog ever runs away or stolen it might help identify it.  I've never gotten a tattoo so I don't know how painful it is.  If a lot of pain is involved this guy shouldn't of done this to the dog.

The weird thing is, the end of the article say's that the dog was "asleep" and that the man apllied a "topical analgesic"

Well, it don't know, but I thing it's bizzare that the dog would not wake up and at least feel(perhaps not painfully) the tatoo needle.

Animals are tattooed all the time for identification purposes including dogs, horses and cattle. Not a big deal.

“The beauty of religious mania is that it has the power to explain everything. Once God (or Satan) is accepted as the first cause of everything which happens in the mortal world, nothing is left to chance …or change... logic can be happily tossed out the window. Religious mania is one of the few infallible ways of responding to the worlds vagaries, because it totally eliminates pure accident. To the true religious maniac, it’s ALL on purpose” – Stephen King, The Stand

My cats have tattooes in their ears to show they have been spayed or chipped (can't remember which), done by the vet no less - I'm pretty sure it is commonplace on that level.  However, this seems gratuitous.

"I warn you, whoever you are, oh you who wish to probe the arcanes of nature, if you do not find within yourself that which you seek, neither shall you find it outside.
If you ignore the excellencies of your own house, how do you intend to find other excellencies?
In you is hidden the treasure of treasures, Oh man, know thyself and you shall know the Universe and the Gods."

While reading the article I thought I read this dude was an Army vetinerarian before and I was like, oh that is cool so he knows what he is doing, but then I read it again and it really said Army veteran, so maybe not?

In either case it must be a boring news day...
