Mutations are in our genes. Damage to a gene could and would cause mutations. It is not necessary to 'evolve' another finger. Since most of us won't be here in 500,000 years it is a pointless argument.
Evolution is more than just mutations, populations evolve not individuals.

funny because i thought that what exactly what evolution does
What is even more funny is that at least two people already pointed out evolution is about survival.

I disagree completely. I could see us loosing fingers over gaining new ones.

Once we have made the perfect Human Computer interface, we won't be using Keyboards etc and instead using our minds to control computers. Only those who do hand on jobs would remain the same.
All I read was "hand jobs"

I predict that human's will evolve an extra finger if the human race survives another 250,000-500,000 more years or so. Mutations is even happening now.

We will evolve an extra finger because we use our fingers so much. Once we recive our extra finger we will also unlock more of our brain powers.

We have more brain powers but that is another topic...

Sexdactyly, or the mutation that causes 6 digits on each extremity, is already here. It is also a dominant mutation; however, unless there is a mass die off event that somehow leaves an extreme amount of people with the mutation it will never be commonplace.

ALSO THE fact we are evolvingto be taller is all based on survival huh...

evolution is not all about survival

if u do a 100 push ups 1 day ur body evolves to stronger musle that makes doing a 100 push convient.......

if ur stayed in a dark oom for a year...ur eyes would evolve to be able to conviently look in the dark

evolution is not all about survival...its caused by repitition too

is this forum for the smart or the closed minded ppl who dont accept anything new....a typical human behavior pattern

what happens if 1 in 500 become 2 in 500 in the next 100 years

now multiply that by 250

the number will only grow unless its a die off like you say

and the fact that havin an extra finger doesnt stop you from reproduces add to the chance of the numbers growing

Mutation leads to adaption which is evolution

mutation is the first stage ofevolution

is mutation causing some humans to be born with extra fingers yes or no?

Useful mutations lead to adaptation.

Down's Syndrome is a mutation as well, however it is not an adaptation.

If I recall correctly, Stephen Hawking has stated something along the lines that we humans have transcended Darwinian Evolution.  We manipulate the environment around us instead of adapting to it.

We won't evolve gills, because we can scuba dive and use submarines.

it was once 1 in 500 homonoiad being born with thumbs too u kno?

it was once 1 in 500 organism being born with eyes

if somthing starts as 1 in 500 and its no sign ofit stopping the number will always grown thats simple math
