Patients With Surgical Complications Provide Greater Hospital Profit-Margins;

"Privately insured surgical patients who had a complication provided hospitals with a 330% higher profit margin than those without a complication, according to new research from Ariadne Labs,

The findings mean that, for hospital managers, efforts to reduce surgical complications could result in substantially worsened financial performance."

Isn't there any sort of regulation for this? Hospitials should be required to meet surgical standards and comply well below a set rate of surgical complications.

I'm sure it's not just the hosipitals that profit from this. The physicians and pharmaceutical companies are more than likely profiting as well.

Lovely.

"They looked at ten severe, preventable surgical complications"  but can't this also result in lawsuits?

Looks like to me the money paid to lawyers and out in lawsuits would take up any profit they might get from this.  Besides having a bad reputation will cause people to go elsewhere for surgery.
