Vast tracts of land in Europe are being "grabbed" by large companies, speculators, wealthy foreign buyers and pension funds in a similar way to in developing countries, according to a major new report.
Chinese corporations, Middle Eastern sovereign wealth and hedge funds, as well as Russian oligarchs and giant agribusiness have all stepped up land acquisitions in the past decade in a process that the report says is preventing ordinary people farming, and concentrating agriculture and land wealth in few hands.
According to research by the Transnational Institute, Via Campesina and others, half of all farmland in the EU is now concentrated in the 3% of large farms that are more than 100 hectares (247 acres) in size. In some EU countries, land ownership is as unequal as it is in Brazil, Colombia and the Philippines.

Land ownership in Europe has become highly unequal reaching, in some countries, proportions similar to Brazil, Colombia and the Philippines – all notorious for their unequal distribution of land and land-based wealth. While in the EU there are some 12 million farms, the large farms (100 hectares and above) that only represent 3 percent of the total number of farms, control 50 percent of all farmed land.

As a despotic 'kulak' who grinds the faces of the proletariat into the very soil stolen from them by my ancestors, I shall keep quiet on this subject, except to draw your attention to the publication that reported it, dear Reader!

Not sure if I understand your post. Are you suggesting the report is inaccurate or that the publication shouldn´t be trusted because of the source?

The Transnational Institute (TNI) of Policy Studies:
  • carries out radical informed analysis on critical global issues
  • builds alliances with social movements
  • develops proposals for a more sustainable, just and democratic world.  More
The Transnational Institute (TNI) was established in 1974 as an international network of activist  researchers (“scholar  activists”) committed to critical analyses of the global problems of today and tomorrow. It aims to provide intellectual support to movements struggling for a more democratic, equitable and environmentally sustainable world.
Over almost 40 years, TNI has gained an international reputation for:
  • carrying out well researched and radical critiques – sometimes against the grain - of current pressing global problems
  • anticipating and producing informed work on key issues long before they become mainstream concerns, for example, our  work on food and hunger, third world debt, transnational corporations, trade, and carbon trading
  • Supporting and enhancing social movements’ work for economic and social justice worldwide
  • naming outstanding TNI fellows from many countries and backgrounds whose scholarship, analysis and research have inspired and educated generations of activists and whose writings continue to provoke debate
  • building alternatives that are both just and pragmatic, for example developing alternative  approaches to international drugs policy and providing support for the practical detailed work of public water services reform
  • influencing policy makers thanks to its research and its direct links and engagement with mass movements, particularly those most affected by current global economic and social policies
  • remaining non-sectarian and able to bridge different political tendencies, thereby helping build coalitions of social movements that span regions and continents

Banks, Pension Funds,  and Big Corporations are taking the very land from under your feet. No need for battle and Conquest, just buy it all with a FIAT currency that is as worthless as it appears. The UK has been occupied by foreign Powers (as have most of Western Europe) which makes all of the battles fought, and the people who gave their lives, an inconsequence. There is NO land fit for heroes, because it has all been given away. :td:

Well, we all know that the EU Agricultural Policies are designed to cater for the interests of the big industrial arable farms in France, above all, aren't they, just as Fisheries policy is designed to serve the interests of the French deep water fishing industry, but it is an eye opener (assuming that fuigures quoted by the liberal leftie Guardian are true) just how much the power is concentrated; but I don't know whether it should be a surprise, given that this is how Capitalism works, the gradual concentration of ownership and wealth in fewer and fewer, bigger and bigger megacorporations. How (supporters of Capitalism) does this work to the benefit of the consumer? Does it give greater Choice, with fewer and fewer monopolistic suppliers?

Life is a hideous business, and from the background behind what we know of it peer daemoniacal hints of truth which make it sometimes a thousandfold more hideous.
