A jobless mother of three who falsely claimed up to £66,000 in benefits has been spared jail despite criticism from a judge for saying she should not be sent to prison because she has children.

Victoria Teasdale, 32, claimed benefits of between £50,000 and £66,663 in income support, housing benefit and council tax after failing to tell authorities that her husband Jason had moved back into her home in Ewell, Surrey, and was earning a wage.

Despite pleading guilty to two benefit fraud offences, lawyers representing Teasdale begged Recorder Rajeev Shetty not to hand her a custodial sentence for the sake of her children ,the youngest of which was conceived while facing prosecution.

Strange, if you read the guardian, this type of thing doesn't happen and is all a cunning lie by the coalition to stir up resentment.

she's stolen from the state, the rule of law should be applied evenly to all. send her to jail. and a life time ban on claiming benefits.

Well send her husband to jail instead then, surely he knew something about the money rolling in!!

Oh! and while they are at it, throw the judge in there with him, some of these judges are a menace to us tax payers and should not be allowed out on the streets, let alone a court room!

In an ideal World a law would be passed were NO guns were allowed and all those out there destroyed, trouble is the law makers are not going to take a risk of trying to pass that without making sure they are armed first.

yep and the judge still let her go. Did the husband plead guilty for living off it too? someone should pay with jail time, the husband and the judge will do nicely for me, they can both discuss tax payers money together in a cosy little cell with 7 ft Errol the back door rapist.
